What are your favorite ways to use garlic scapes? I just harvested 15 of them this morning. Now looking for good suggestions on ways to use them. I looked on line and i saw grilling, pesto, pickled to name a few. Drying??? anyone tried that?

Michele the one year I planted the kind of garlic that produced scapes was a bad year for growing garlic so they didn't make. I looked through my cookbooks and found one recipe for garlic scapes.
Pickled garlic scapes in oil - recipe will make four 1/2 pint jars. Will keep in the fridge up to 1 month
Serve pickled scapes with cheese & salami as part of an antipasto platter.
From Preserving Italy Cookbook.
If you want the recipe I will copy it and send to you. It's more than I want to type and post here.

I have grilled garlic scapes and they were delicious. I just tossed them with olive oil, salt and pepper. They are a great accompaniment to grilled steaks and chicken. Enjoy yours and let us know how you cook them up.

I have never tried this but would love to learn more, like what type of garlic would I grow to make garlic scapes and is the scape the shoot that the flower would develop?

I love garlic but I have never heard of the scapes. Sounds interesting. I use garlic in just about everything I cook. Delicious.

Hardneck garlic planted in the fall of the previous years, usually sends up a scape, which looks like a curly step with a point on the end, around this time of the year. You can harvest this scape by cutting it off and using it like garlic, but it doesn't have quite as strong of a taste.

They also say you harvest them, so the plant puts all its energy into growing the bulb. thanks for the many suggestions. Got to do something with them.....baling hay this afternoon, so time is short.

Thanks for the info on scapes. I love garlic in everything but my husband does not. I think he would like the scapes better.
