Last night, I dug up a few daylily bulbs, a couple of Iris's and some momkey grass from my house in town and plan on moving them to the new place. Since there isnt a house there yet I am just going to pick a spot in the backyard convenient to the water hydrant and plant them temporarily until I can move them next fall or spring to a better spot in the yard. I just wanted something familiar growing at the new place.

I would like to dig up my climbing rose bushes too but I am not sure that would sit well with the new buyers. lol

My brother says it might be hard to grow anything this year without fertilizing the heck out of it since it has been covered by trees forever. I would think that would make it have more nutrients in the soil. The soil is all sandy though.

Any of you ever transplant things from a previous home to a new one? What kind of plants did you move?

I moved some things from the 2nd house ago to the one we lived in before moving out here. We put in the listing that I'd like to do this, and the buyer was really nice about it. I took monkey grass, some hostas, and I dug up some bulbs that my kids had given me for Mother's Day one year. They did fine, but I really babied them at first.

Good luck and have fun!

I moved Roses, Daylillies, a butterflybush, a hydrengia bush, fern, clamatis, lavendar, carnations, artichoke, sedum, chicks and hens, iris, honeysuckle.... basically, I took the whole yard. It all survived!

Cool Rachel! I just remembered that I could also take some mint I have growing out by the garage. I want make a raised bed at our new place for some herbs so that would be a good place to transplant them since they are pretty invasive otherwise.
