Hello skywatchers!
Be sure to check out the Moon this weekend.....there is going to be a lunar eclipse!
Timing & nature of what you will see will depend on what part of the country you live in.
But not matter what: go outside & watch for it!
Also, Saturn is SO close to the Moon tonight! You will see Saturn to the right/upper right of the Moon. And Regulus (the leading star in Leo) is below them.
See you under the stars!

Thanks for the heads up on the eclipse! I love to watch the night time sky at night in the hot tub. Gives me another excuse to use it!!

Hope the weather is decent. I love stargazing. When we lived in Abilene, TX, DH and I saw the most amazing meteor shower, even woke up at 3am to go watch! I bought him a telescope so we could do more, but since then we've lived in town and haven't been able to do much skywatching....
If dreams were lightnin, thunder was desire, this ole house woulda burned down a long time ago~

The website Rosemary posted say this is only for the eastern half of the US. Out west by the time the moon rises the eclipse will be over. Oh well. MB

Hey, Farmgirls!
Thanks to those of you posting additional regional info.
Marybeth, my understanding is that those of us out here on the West coast will see a tiny bit of it - as the Moon is setting. Not dramatic, I know, but I guess something is better than nothing. That's the thing about skywatching......you can be a bit disappointed sometimes, but then again something can happen that just takes your breath away. I think it helps teach patience & perseverence (did I spell that correctly?) to kids.
If it is a clear sky, I still think it would be worth a look-see.
Eastern Farmgirls - please let us know how it goes!

We (my mother, sister and I) just came back from driving all over to try to get a good look at the eclipse. My sister is a budding astronomer, among many other things. It was extremely cloudy, but we finally caught a glimpse of the moon as the sky cleared briefly. It was about three-quarters covered by the eclipse. Then it disappeared again - but it was interesting to see while it lasted. My sister only wished that we had caught it a little sooner, when it was supposed to be red (don't ask me - I'm not the astronomer  ). So that's our report!

| Well, we had a beautiful clear night last night and wouldn't you know it, I missed it!! I forgot earlier and went out too late! What a beautiful night it was though. The moonlight was sparkling through the icicles hanging from my roof and it was so beautiful. The woods just looked like they were enchanted in the soft blue light. |

Don't feel too bad, Jan. The cool thing about skywatching is that there is always another chance to see something astounding.
I went out walking as the Moon was rising.......by then the ecipse was over, but I did get to see one of the most beautiful Moonrises I've seen in a long time. The Moon had the most ethereal golden & greenish hued, enormous ring around it. It looked like something out of an Arthur Rackham fairy tale illustration. So even though I didn't get to see the eclipse, how could I complain about such an evening? And Saturn continues to be so gorgeous every night.... what brillance! And just think how long it took for that light to reach us here on Earth!
So, did any of you Farmgirls see the eclipse? Did your animals act a little off? |

Michelle- It was much earlier than I expected. It was between 7-8pm here on the east coast. The way the clouds kept passing over it gave it a very mystical and eerie presence. We happened to catch it starting and were all surprised how early and low in the sky it was. We also saw the finish too which was pretty clear and unobscured.
There's always next time! Aren't we due for a comet soon?
