Kim, that is OK!! I'm really excited too. So much so that I went out and got some beautiful white on white. I found some trim that will look very glam and beautiful. I'm going to snap photos of the fabric and trim and put it on my blog later tonight. Don't have time now, but when Mom is settled in and the girls are fed and bathed!! Later.....I'm really excited to get started on this too!! Woo Hoo.....I'm hoping to get started on the muslin tonight!!

I'm so glad you like it....I can so see it in my mind's eye....I am going to take great care with this so it will be as perfect as I can get it. The hand beading will take the longest, but it will not be overdone in beads. I don't want them to add any weight to the garments!! Just a hint of sparkle. Tina...glad you checked the blog too!!

Did I miss the lesson on ruching??? I havent done a thing with them as of yet. With all the family stuff going on...no time to sew. Still have the frocks I mentioned earlier cut out and not complete...plus several aprons. And where am I going today?? THE FABRIC STORE! Husband and I are taking Oldest Daughter to get her staples out from her gall bladder surgery and we have to go to the fabric store, health food store, kitchen store and wine shoppe. Those are must stops!

How to rouch.
Rouching is a series of channels along a garment through which you gather the fabric. I did a corded rouching. Don't know if that is the proper term, but that best describes it.
In the plaid skirt, I cut a piece of fabric that was the length that I wanted the channel to be, which happened to be from the waist to 1" above the ruffle, then cut it the width of the two channels plus enough to fold under to finish the edges. I then finished all four edges and pinned it on the top of where I wanted the channels to run. With the plaid skirt, I laid it directly over one of the vertical seam lines on the front side of the skirt. (This skirt has 6 panels, so I had plenty of seams to choose from. I then sewed each outside edge down, using the previous stitching as my guide, then sewed directly down the middle of the appliqued piece to create two channels. I only wanted to channels. This way I could run two pieces of cording through and tie it at the bottom just above the ruffle. Be sure to cut your cording long enough to hang out of the bottom of the channel so it doesn't get lost up the channel when the garment is not gathered. I sewed the top of the channels directly into the waistline and finished off the bottom of the channel before sewing it on to the skirt for a neat edge.
There are many different ways to rouch. You can rouch the seams, but taking a slightly deeper seam, and stitch it down on the inside of the garment to create a channel and then run elastic or cording through it.
Another way would be to make a garment with a double thickness, finish off the top and bottom open then sew channels from top to bottom and run your cording or elastic through the desired amount of channels, securing it along the top and bottom or leaving it open on the bottom for an adjustable rouching.
If I get time today, I'll post some close up photos of the rouching to better visualize this technique!

Kim's dress will be a glorious origninal! I am envious! COngratulations on finding such a great, designer/seamstress Kim.
As for rouching, taking a larger seam works well...that's what I did. I french seam anyway and just took a little bigger seam allowance. Then I stitched the seam down like a flat felled before adding my ribbon.

Thanks everyone,
I have a new apron on my blog. It is an experimental one made out of a thrifted stained, old king size pillow case that I got for .50. A piece of thrifted vintage calico and some antique lace I had on hand. It looks like blackberry jam and violets! LOL
No pattern, just started cutting and sewing. I darted the front of this one. Next time I'll dart the back.

Georgann,
Beautiful work as always...you are right about that apron being "yummy" you can almost taste it! You seem to know so much about fabrics, how did you learn? I am always finding great fabrics at the thrift store and I never know what they really are. I can tell a basic cotton, rayon, cotton/poly, etc, but beyond that I am clueless. Oh, and how do I tell if a vintage fabric is flour sacking?

LOL...wish I could. I'm way over the size of this one. I might be able to talk my daughter into it, but she is only 9! She's a little short. Do I have a size 10 volunteer? LOL....I'm a little, no...alot on the fluffy side!
