Well, I'm Brooke and I'm living on a cattle ranch/farm in O'Neill Ne near Nebraska's sandhills. I have 3 kids and a part time portrait photography business here on the farm. I looking to learn from other women on the farm. I came here from Southern California 5 years ago to live when I married my husband. The farm has been in his family for over 100 years. So I guess I'm a city girl turned farm girl looking for wisdom....

Hi Brooke and Welcome,
I was a city girl until 4 1/2 years ago when I married my hubby too. I have learned tons since then but this bunch of women are great for any farming, canning, crafting, quilting, gardening, etc advice you could want. What kind of cattle do you raise on your ranch? Our farm is a hobby farm. We raise black angus. We also raise chickens for show(That is a huge hobby).Talk to you soon,
Alicia

Thanks for all the replies....Well, I hail from Corona, CA approx 72 miles east of LA. Here on our ranch we raise black angus. We have approx 50 head. Cattle are interesting. We calve in the summer and fall so I'm greatful the cattle don't have to have their babies in the wet cold snow! I wouldn't have enjoyed it if I were a cow! Where is a good place to post photos on this websight? Thanks again.

Welcome, Brooke!
Looking forward to hearing more about your life there in Nebraska. My Dad's dream - never realized - was to have a heard of Black Angus. (I heard so much about them when I was a little girl, that when I was 5 years old & recieved a stuffed black kitten, I named him Black Angus. It was a big joke in the family for years......)

Hi from Mercer County New Jersey

I'm new here so forgive any cyber social mistakes. I have a small farm with lots of sweet animals. I have chickens, 2 call ducks, guinea hens, 4 nigerian goats, mini donkeys, a jersey cow and a couple of horses. I'm learning by the seat of my overalls. (Hee hee.) I'm finding that I'm happiest when I'm outside working along side the animals. Who knew that such a simple life could bring such joy. And this simple life becomes so complicated when you find out all the very interesting things there are to do.

So, farmgirls,I'm starting a 4-H club as they are not very active in my county. My goal is to bring the 4-H clubs back to my area. Any 4-H fans? Any suggestions, advice or comments. Please wish me luck as I am trying my best. I did invest in a button from the 4-H catalog that reads, "Don't Yell at Me, I'm a Volunteer." Probably the best investment yet. :)

And a big hearty Hello to my new friend who told me about this site. Thank you for telling me and good luck with the new home.

Welcome Brooke,
You will find most of us did not start out as farmgirls, my background is in law and I did not purchase and start my farm until my husband passed away 11 years ago. Don't be shy, ask questions, share stories and above all have fun. Life is too short to worry and at this site there are plenty of helpful hands, hints and hugs.
