| Hi, could someone please tell me what this is? I saw it on a website used to make animals from gourds. I guess it is used to sculpture etc, but do you buy it made up or can you make it yourself.? I need some of that stuff :) Have never heard of it in New Zealand. |

like paper mache maybe?? I know they sell it already made up in bags some places..don't have a source for you though.

Welcome to MJF Bubblesnz! You are from an amazingly beautiful coountry!
We made it once and made ornaments and gift tags from cookie molds. It was finely chopped paper in a blender with water until it became a big clump of unrecognizable clay. You squeezed the water out as you worked with it and it dried into any shape you wanted to make and hardened, really hard. We discovered if you soaked the paper ahead of time it made the blending much easier. I have seen kits for it a craft supply like AC Moore or Michael's but they are probably not available to you in NZ unless you try the web.Hope that helps a little.

RE: paper clay. Here is another CHEAP and wonderful way to make a "clay" that works: Stuff your dryer lint (yes, the stuff you used to throw away) into a quart container until it won't hold anymore. Fill the container up with water and let it soak overnight. Drain this mess in a colander. Press with the back of a spoon to get rid of most of the water. (Leave it so it stills drips slowly when you pick out a handfull.) Add 2-3 tablespoons of white glue (OR 1/4 cup flour and a teaspoon of salt) Mix and mix by hand like you're making cookie dough. When it seems all mixed (you may have to add a bit more glue) form as desired. Perfect clay. If you use the flour/salt, you will have to seal the end result with varnish of some type. It is optional on the glue batch. This stuff behaves in many of the same ways as the powdered paper mache does, but it's free. By the way, starting the grill or other fires is much easier using dryer lint as tinder or instead of lighter fluid. Have a great day!

Hi Helen-
I'm not sure where to get paperclay in NZ, but here is a link to the website you can order from. I have used mine to stamp in and then color in w/pens for card & scrapbook embellishments. I also made molds of my cats paws It is a lot of fun!

| Hi, Thanks everyone for your help. Will diffenitly try the recipes and check out that site Nancy. I really envy you guys, you have so much more craft stuff than what is avaible here. We don't have the population here to support it I guess. |
