My oldest daughter called this morning and needed me to take her to the ER. I am too pooped to go into all the details but she has to have her gall bladder out. Her pancreatic enzymes are elevated and they need to let her pancreas "cool off" before the surgery if at all possible...will keep you all posted. Prayers appreciated.

Susan, you and your daughter are in my prayers already.. I went though GB problems 15 years ago, so I know her pain... Just get that nasty old GB out and she will feel better.

Susan, I can so relate. I agree with Margie, once it's out, it's a relief. Strong positive vibes going to you and your daughter.

Susan,
I'm so sorry, yes that Pancreatitis related to GB is a pretty painful affliction! Get some rest, I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers and thoughts.

Susan, she's on my prayer list. Please keep us posted as to when surgery is & how she's doing. Take care of yourself, too, okay?

Good morning all. Well it has been a very weird 24 hours. That was my daughter's first trip to the hospital, first IV, first real illness. She did cry some when she heard the diagnosis. Can you imagine at 26, this being your first real health stuff. She broke her arms (yes, both)when she was very young in a bicycle wreck, and that was the last time she was in an ER.

Anyway...she has lots of stones evidently. And her minor bouts with horrible indigestion and upper abdominal pain for the past several weeks have been her passing them. Because she wasnt having the accute attack at the moment, they didnt want to operate last night or even today for that matter. If she has another episode between now and the weekend I suppose they will have to. I didnt like the surgeon at all. And I do NOT butt into my grown kids lives but I had to say so. Her poor husband was just so worried about her and I knew he had about as much experience with drs as she does. Thank goodness her husband's sister who is a dr came buy about the time the surgeon did and when he left she said "What in the world??" I will call tomorrow and see about getting you in to see Dr.___ ! Yeah for sisters who are drs!!! So we are up in the air about when. She and her husband both would like to wait until Dad gets home next Thursday but dont know if that will be the case.

I have to say, I felt very privileged to be asked to take them to the hospital. I am so glad she felt like she could call on me. Its an hours drive to the hospital from their house (after a 30 minute drive for me to them)and she said "thanks for coming mom, I am not ready to be THIS grown up." AWWWW how sweet is that. Sometime after we got to the hospital she begin to feel some better so I tried to entertain her and keep her amused instead of worried. Something very useful my dad taught me! So today I suppose we will know when the next step will take place unless her bad old gall bladder has more immediate plans.

After getting a good night's sleep I have to get busy today. And pray we didnt pick up anything at the ER, I have never seen so many truly sick people in one small space on a Wed morning...flu, tummy ails. Nothing I wanted for sure!

I will keep you all posted. Thanks for being here.

Susan- I hope that things work out with the new doctor. My sister had her gallbladder removed last year and she was glad to get it out! She had been sick for about a year, not really knowing what was going on, then- wham! One bad attack was all it took. She feels so much better now. I know your daughter will too. Prayers going out for your daughter and your family.

Susan- Prayers for your daughter to have a skilled and compassionate doctor for her surgery. I had no signs, no "attacks" until the one that took me to the ER when I was 30. They found a gall bladder ready to rupture. Needless to say we did not wait but went ahead and had it removed, once it's bad, it's bad and has to go. The longer she keeps it the higher things like SED rates (inflammation rates, infection and secondary complications can occur. I had to have the "big " incision because they weren't sure I hadn't already ruptured but if she can have the "belly button surgery" her healing time will be much quicker. Prayers to all of you at this scary time. She will feel bad after the surgery but so much better once her gall bladder is gone and she has healed. Blessings to all of you and a speedy recovery.

I had my gall bladder out 15 years ago so I have the big scar. I had one big attack and they took it out right away. Your daughter will feel soooo much better when it is over. Until she has the surgery, make sure she eats a very low fat diet so she doesn't have a lot of pain.

I had mine out three years ago. It will go fine, and she is lucky to have you for a mom! I had to wait three weeks once it was shceduled, and I was so glad when the day finally came. I have been tummy pain free since. That is why I say she will be fine....praying for both of you!

We have a 9 am appt in the morning. With another dr. I called my gyn this morning who is also her dr and said HELP! He quickly made a phone call and had us an appt with a dr he recommended. So that is good. We will know more after her enzymes are checked again tomorrow. Thanks for your kindnesses and prayers. Lorij...hope your daughter's goes smoothly!

Susan,

My prayers are with you and your daughter and her husband. I know it is tough to deal with a sick kid........even if that kid is grown up.

Good Luck

My gall bladder needs to come out, just haven't scheduled it yet. Knowing me, it will hit big time when the timing is horrible, but that's what I get for procrastinating. If it was bothering me all the time, I'd get it over with right away. Have one large stone, about 2 1/2" at last check. Was waiting for the holidays to be over, now it's nearly March and here I am still. Silly me. Have to work around the time my husband is home from Alaska and it's never a ''good time''. No fears, I'm just one who procrastinates. I know if my mother came through without complications a couple years ago, it will be a breeze for me. Requested the same surgeon, since I liked him.
Hope the daughter comes through fine, though it's nearly a given these days.

Just keep thinking, when the gall bladder goes, no more gall bladder woes! How terrific to have a sister in law for a doctor, what a blessing! And what a blessing you live close enough to be there for her (and for you) because you'd be a wreck if you had to sit by the phone for news. You and Lorij are in my prayers, just like all the farm gals, every night. Keep a stiff upper lip and keep your daughter entertained, 'cause laughter is the best medicine we moms can dish out! Nance

We just got home about an hour ago. She was in surgery for about 45 minutes, recovery about 45 minutes...then in her room about an hour and then in the truck on the way home (60 miles)...she's asleep now but feels pretty good. I will stay with her a while and then back over tomorrow. She lives 30 minutes from us. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers.

Gall Bladder surgery has come so far. My MIL had it many years ago and it was a big thing . . . about a week in the hospital, very sick and huge incision. My sister-in-law just did it last year . . . out patient! I didn't know they did that! She had a laser surgery so the incision was tiny and she felt great in no time. I was amazed at the contrast. We will keep everyone in prayer who has a bad gall bladder . . . doesn't it make you wonder about what we eat or our environment, when it seems to be such a rampant problem?

It was sweet about what you said about your daughter still needing you. My kids aren't grown yet, but I do hope they will always need me. We have a book called "I'll love you forever" that talks of a mother singing this to her son each night. Even when he grows up ,she sneaks in and sings this to him. At the end, when she is old and feeble, he sings it to her. It is a kids book but it makes me cry everytime. We made up a tune so that when we read the book we always sang the "I love you forever" part. It became such a sentimental thing for our kids. I need to find more copies on ebay, since it is something they all cherish.

Sending love and prayers to each of you.

Brenda

She's great. Enjoying coffee again. That one thing seem to really trigger something. And she's like her mommy -gotta have our coffee. She and her husband are coming over this Saturday for their favorite meal. Husband is cooking up a big old batch of Penne Rustica and I will make a cheesecake and some chocolate cupcakes. Not everyone here likes or can have cheesecake...I love it...can't have it! Husband isnt a big fan.

Then on Sunday Husband and I are taking the three youngest to Houston to the Museum of Fine Art to see 135 French Masterpieces on loan from the MET. We are all trying to get as much visiting in as possible. Husband leaves for the Mediterranean in April.

Thanks so much for asking...what would we do with out this place and our farmgirl friends?

Glad everyone is doing so well . . . though I am a bit jealous of the cheesecake! LOL! It truly is wonderful how far medical technology has come. Just happy you are all able to go on with and enjoy your lives.
