I have my feeder out as well and am patiently waiting for my scout hummer who should have been her by now.
I have been wanting to tell everyone something but keep forgetting. Well, my best friend in Savannah her Son and DIL are having there baby girl May 23rd. Sadly they lost their first baby girl, MaraBell, when DIL was 7 months pregnant, my theme for gifts for MaraBell was Flamingos. For the second baby girl I needed to come up with another theme so I chose Bees! I have found the cutest blankets, clothes, toys, books with Bees. And of course the sweetest stuffed Bee.
This Jubilee theme was perfect! So thank you.
I will send pictures of our sweet baby girl when she arrives. Sam and Amy will not reveal her name until she is born. I watched Sam grow up, Sam and Kent were buddies. So I too can not wait for their baby girl to arrive and they are so happy and joyful that they are pregnant again.
So that is the story I wanted to share with you.
Happy Day and weekend for all my Farmgirl Sisters.

Hugs,
Deborah (My birth name, just found out) I love this name!

Hi everyone,

I've been out of the loop here at the sisterhood for over a year with a few health issues, but major surgery took care of one of them. I'm still working on the others, but well enough to be back here thrilled about it!

I love the idea of attracting bees, hummingbirds and other pollinators. Since I haven't been able to do much physical work myself lately, I hired someone to design a landscape plan for my front yard. I can only afford to implement it a little at a time. Last summer the white picket fence with arbor went up and a variety of flowers were planted on the outside of the fence and roses on the inside. This summer more flowers will be planted to start filling in the yard. Many varieties were chosen specifically to attract pollinators. I can't wait until the planted ones bloom and the new ones arrive. Then I can watch the pollinator party!

Oh, it's so good to be back here at the sisterhood!

Eileen good to have you back. Your landscaping plan sounds wonderful. Love the idea of white picket fence and arbor.

May not wait for May 1 to put my garden flags out but do it this weekend and hang the yellow bee apron Linda made me at the front door with sun bonnet. Will leave it all up through MaryJane's birthday.

Our yard is shaded by the neighbor's arborvitae, lots of them. He offered last year to cut them down. I was ecstatic. Now he's deliberating. They're huge and I think he needs to hire it done. Meanwhile, I should be rotating my tomatoes. If I do, they won't get the sun they need. What can i do to the bed I've had them in so I don't need to rotate? Any hints or suggestions?

The bulbs I planted last fall (daffodils and hyacinth) are up and looking lovely! Spring came late to New England this year. I finally felt comfortable stowing the snowbrushes and ice scrapers in the trunk of my car today. I should probably think about putting away my winter coat, boots, hat and mittens, too. We finally have all the windows open. The cats are ecstatic! (well, actually right now they're asleep, but they were ecstatics when we first opened the windows). I think, I really think it's finally spring in New England!

My sister and I went to the Salvation Army today and I found a new handmade bib apron with over-all butterfly print for $3. Good price and quality fabric. I will wear it this Sunday to celebrate Jubilee 2018.

I love anything to do with gardening. I am going to try again this year to grow a vegetable garden in my porch. The hot Florida sun just won't let my edible plants live. Then the bugs eat what the heat doesn't kill. As long as I keep them in the porch they thrive.

Terrific idea!

Grace, I can totally relate to that experience. Whenever, we think we've found a good spot to plant turns out ants got there first. lol

Yeah Nora! Love your bright green pollinator flag!!! I just put up my mason bee house and need to finish my two flags! One for another farmsister and then mine! i am ready to rock this celebration! ;)

Grace, have you tried pouring dried grits on the ant bed? i too have them in the garden. Whats so bad is I NEVER see them as the soil is rich black and they build in that soil so when i go to hoe I end up stepping right dab smack in the middle of them! Ouch! So I read and read how to get rid of them WITHOUT toxic chemicals and came upon the grits thing. I tried it and it ACTUALLY WORKS!!!! Know what else works?? I hated the gnats and skeeters and biting flies always pestering me as I worked. lemongrass oil helped a bit but never lasted as long as I was out there. Again, after some study and reading, i found that if you take B12 complex it tends to keep them away. Well, i started last month and sure enough they linger nearby but won't land on me! I feel empowered for sure! Not to mention a little more energized!!! lol!

WooHoo, wonderful garden activities for our Farmgirl Jubilee celebration this year!! I am loving all the flag ideas and yard blooms shared.

Dianna, I tried raising Mason bees here in Florida . Mine hatched, flew out of the house and then never came back!!! I was so disappointed. A Farmgirl from Kentucky, who lives on a farm ,grows them easily so I am thinking my city location was not where the bees wanted to be. Even with the proper type of Mason bees for my area and a spiffy mason bee abode, they didn't stay here. But hopefully, they did some pollinating which helped flowering plants here in our area. Bees are the BEST!!

Happy Farmgirl Weekend everyone!! And a big shout out to our local Bees today for stopping by our homes as they do their important work.

It is a Bee Happy Day today!!

Dianna,,, I will have to try the Grits... to rid our ants.. I do use peppermint EO in the house along the baseboard and window siles to keep ants out (aprox 15 =?- drops of peppermint oil, diluted with distilled water, put in a spray bottle)
I have been taking B12 for 2 months now,, had no idea it could ward of pesty bitting bugs..
