Okay, here are the guidelines for this swap - first, please fill out the questionnaire and email it to me at erinosmith@hotmail.com. Then post your answers to the questionnaire here in this thread (this will help us all get to know one another, and will provide a record in case you accidently delete your swap partners info.)
Short questionnaire:
1. What type of doll or toy do you like to make, or would be willing to make
- primitive doll i.e. with tea stained fabric, specific style - simple rag doll like Raggedy Ann or fairy tale dolls - jointed furry animals like teddy bears, rabbit, etc., - more elaborate dolls, sculpted or not (like goddess dolls, sock monkeys, knit or crocheted dolls, amigurumi, etc.) - baby dolls (specific style, materials can be varied) - simple shape toys or animals made from fabric (simple construction, usually a couple of pieces and not jointed) - Waldorf dolls (specific style) - mini dolls for nature tables, dollhouses (can be made a variety of ways) - wooden dolls (clothespin dolls, wooden bead dolls, woodworked or sculpted dolls, etc.) - hand puppets, wooden puppets, etc. - other (please specify)
2) which type of doll or toy (from above) would you like to receive (give first and second choices)
3) favorite colors
4) collections (doll or toy wise)
5) anything else you'd like to mention that will help your swap partner out...
Include ONLY in your email to me: name, screen name, mailing address and email.

My survey -
1) I can do any of the following: - hand puppets, simple rag dolls, jointed furry animals, sock dolls, crocheted amigurumi, simple fabric animals, mini dolls, wooden clothpin dolls, and don't mind doing any of these. My specialties lie with felt rag dolls and simple cloth animals, and I do a lot of "Goth Annie" type dolls - a black haired, punked out Raggedy Ann type...
2) Rag dolls, mini dolls for dollhouses, sock dolls/animals, amigurumi (any of the these) and hand puppets. I am not a big fan of the primitive dolls specifically, but like the same style in different fabrics (white bodies, bright prints)
3) bright colors, farm prints, gothic or skully prints, retro prints or funky artsy prints
4) collections: barbies, sock monkeys in unusual colors, monster dollies made from felt and cloth, fabric animals, goth dollies, felt dollies, doll and toy patterns
5) have a bunch of patterns to lend if someone needs something specific to help them out (I collect patterns for all kinds of fabric-based dolls and toys)
I have a very simple but awesome puppet template for anyone who is interested in making felt hand puppets!

Remember, sign ups will continue through the end of the month, with the partners sent out on March 1st. Mailing deadline is April 15th, and if everyone agrees to it, we'll be sending a mini to Mahri (and/or her sister Meadow).
[For those who don't know who Mahri is, please do a search in the archives for the topic "Stephanie and Mahri".] (Or email me.)

I would love to be in on this. Here are my answers to the survey:
1. I would make:
- primitive doll i.e. with tea stained fabric, specific style, from Frannie’s Cabin Fever Doll Class – may or may not stain the fabric. - simple rag doll like Raggedy Ann or fairy tale dolls
2) which type of doll or toy would you like to receive (give first and second choices): I would like either a primitive doll, simple rag doll, fairy tale doll, teddy bear, sock monkey, goddess doll, knit or crocheted, baby doll, I’m pretty easy to please
3) favorite colors: anything really
4) collections (doll or toy wise): tea cups, dolls (all kinds), teddy bears, small pitchers, Homer Laughlin dishes
If this works, I have some photos of dolls I made for gifts this last Christmas and in 2004 at webshots: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/556893462uKjUqZ?track_pagetag=/page/photo/homegarden/dolls&track_action=/Owner/MediaInfo/AlbumTitle
And if it doesn't, my albums at webshots.com are under "scarboroughfaire" and the album is "Cloth Dolls"
The ones I made in 2006 are from Frannie's pattern, but they didn't get their aprons - I ran out of time. I thought I'd make them and send them to the girls for Easter.
This will be fun, and for me, having a deadline ensures that the doll will get made! Looking forward to it! Judy

My survey questions-
1. Primitive or simple rag dolls. 2. Anything from a farmgirl would be lovely. 3. Browns, blues (cobalts to robin's egg!), and greens. 4. My home is a collection of things I love- from bird nests to cut glass. You name it, it's in here!
I am going to have to put on my thinking cap, my sewing glasses and pull out the dye pot. This is going to be fun!

I am a newbie to making dolls (and being surrounded by boys, there isnt much of a demand for them) But here are my answers and I hope there is someone who wont mind being paired with a newbie.
1. What type of doll or toy do you like to make, or would be willing to make
- simple rag doll like Raggedy Ann or fairy tale dolls - sock monkeys, crocheted dolls, amigurumi, - baby dolls (specific style, materials can be varied) - simple shape toys or animals made from fabric (simple construction, usually a couple of pieces and not jointed) - wooden dolls (clothespin dolls, wooden bead dolls, woodworked or sculpted dolls, etc.)
2) which type of doll or toy (from above) would you like to receive anything will be wonderful, but I am not a huge fan of primitives, we have a new nature table, so I think it would be fun to add some spring waldorf style dollies, but we love them all here!
3) favorite colors blues and greens
4) collections (doll or toy wise) aprons, vintage linens, vintage children's books, paper dolls
5) anything else you'd like to mention that will help your swap partner out I cant think of anything, but whom ever gets me can ask away!

Is anyone else so excited to do this project that you cannot decide on just one project? I am collecting all my ideas and I cannot seem to just pick one idea and go with it. That is a reoccurring theme in my life it seems. So many projects that are oh so fun to do. The answers to this questionnaire:
1. I like to make all kinds of dolls and stuffed animals and make believe beasts and heroes. I could definitely make primitive dolls, fairytale, themes...hula girls, princesses, knights, girl scouts, fabric animals, dinosaurs, dragons, bees, ladybugs...endless ideas and possibilities.
2. I would totally enjoy love and appreciate anything that someone else has made. I just love that creative people are all over this place and willing to trade and swap. I love seeing and receiving beautiful works of art.
3. I really enjoy purples and burgundies, bright sunny yellows, i think somewhere along the lines the color i love have been coined...jewel tones.
4. I do not really collect anything, but lots of things seem to collect. I surround myself with things that are fun to look at, touch, different stuff. I like colored glass, I like vintage hankies, quilts, barns, old homes...good stuff.
5. I have several children that are pretty young...9,7,5,4,2,2,9 1/2 months, we garden, grow flowers and veggies, sew, quilt, try to crochet and knit, raise a few show rabbits, write little books for each other. We love chickens, rabbits, sheep, horses. We just try to do fun stuff. we do not have a television, we entertain ourselves, buried treasures, forts, fairy lands, etc. We just have fun. |

I do not want to make this too big of a project for everyone, I know we agreed to make one doll to trade with each other and one smaller version for Mahri, but why not make two smaller versions so that the girls can each have one that match. It seems that they will have a lot to overcome during the course of their lives, matching dolls may give them some sense of togetherness. I do not know, just thinking out loud. I know everything happens for a reason, butthis one just makes me feel so awful. I think of those girls and they are so fortunate to have so many people close to them, making sure they are well. I really hope the best things for both of them and their families and friends. |
