Ladies thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I felt your loving presence as my 8th graders came to class last period. It was emotional but good for all of us. I know they have grieved in other classes as well but we seem to have a special bond here in the art room. I cried and told them it was okay to cry and that today we would have a special day to remember daniel and that we wouldn't be doing what I had originally planned to do. we spent a few minutes remembering him and laughing and crying and then one of the "big tough boys" in the class suggested we have a group hug so we did. Everyone was silent for a moment and it was very peaceful. I cleared off an area of the room and we made a rememberance board for daniel. Some of them wrote poems some drew pictures and some just signed their names. Many asked about what funerals were like and I tried my best to explain to them what it would be like. It was VERY emotional and I sobbed like a baby after they left. When they left I happened to glance out the window and see all of them linked arm in arm walking across the parking lot. It was very touching and something I will always hold in my heart. Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for the family, especially his sister who is just 1 year older.

So sorry to hear that. You, the family and the school will be in my prayers. I think just being there for the kids to talk to is your role, not necessarily having the right things to say. In times like this, there is great power in a hug.

| Julie...so sorry to hear about the loss of one of your students. I know it must have been hard to find the right words, but it sounds like you did just the right thing by letting the kids talk and get their feelings out. The board is a nice idea too. Nice to see them all coming together like that...all differences put aside. I don't know how you held it together until they left, I had a hard time just reading your post. We're here for you when you need us. My prayers are with you. |

Brought tears to my eyes girl! You are an awesome woman to let them go through what they needed to in your class. It's something they will treasure forever. Teaching children how to grieve is a powerful lesson. It's something they will carry with them forever, and be able to pass on to others. It's not a fun thing, but it is healthy and a life skill that is amazing we have the freedom of being open.
(((HUGS))) to you, I know you must be exhausted. Make sure you do something special for yourself when you get home.
