I just received a call that one of my 8th graders was killed in a car accident about an hour ago. I do not know much of the details right now but please pray for his family and for the students in my school. We are about 500 k-12 so it will have an effect on the entire student body.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I am so nervose about what tomorrow will be like. I am not one to handle loss very well and I am afraid I will just be a basket case tomorrow.

Julie - This news is just so sad. I pray you will find the strength tomorrow to be an anchor for your students. I hope there are grief counselors available for the students -- or that your school counselor or psychologist will be able to offer some guidance to the staff in helping the students deal with the loss. I think it's good for the students to grieve together and to see you grieve as well. There is no 'correct' way to grieve. It's a hurt that must be felt and felt deeply in order to come through to the other side.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

P.S. It's ok if you are sad in front of the kids tomorrow. Everyone will be so sad that it will be fine if you show it too. We have teachers who have cried in front of kids and it is never a bad thing.

Julie, I am so sorry. You'll know exactly what you need to do to help the kids. Teachers always know. Prayers for you and your school. It's so hard. Please let us know how you are doing when you can.

Julie, sending another farmgirl hug your way. You know that we are thinking of you, and praying for the family and friends of that young person.

I hope that today goes well for you, as well as possible, I mean. It's so very unnatural to lose a young person;, hopefully, your school can grieve the loss, cherish and share the memories, and find a way to honor the life of this young person.

Julie, you have my deepest sympathy... I've lost three past students (one a suicide) and just bawled every time. It feels like you ought to "be strong", but I'm not so sure showing grief isn't also good. I am sure, however, your love for him and for the rest of the children is very, very good for them to feel.
XO,
Ann

Oh, Julie - I am so sorry. I'm thinking about you and yours, and the whole school - and the family of the young one today. I hope it is going as well as possible. Just remember - it's okay to be sad, and it's okay to show that to kids so they know it's okay, too. ((((HUGS!)))
