Good evening all. I hope you had a good day
Very cold here in Va and windy too Brrr.
I am in search for a plus size old fashioned smock pattern like the artist people use to wear.
With the long sleeves and big pockets.
I found one. but. I thought maybe you all would know where I can get one.
It needs to be fairly simple to sew and the plus sizes too.
I am losing weight but ; boobs are still huge Lol. Pinkroses

You are too funny. I have some smock patterns. AND I live in VA!!! Do you have a photo of what you are looking for? I have a good idea. I too am plus size, thus the plus smock patterns. Oh, Hancock Fabric has Simplicity patterns on sale Sun and Mon. They are .99 each, limit of 5. If you find one you like, I'll run up there and get it for you. Here is one of the patterns that I have. Haven't made it yet, but I plan on doing it!

If you go to: http://www.simplicity.com and do a search on this pattern number: 4746 you will see this lovely hobby coat. To me this is my idea of an old fashioned artist's smock.

Design: 4746
Description: Misses' Hobby Coat, Pants and Bag
Size Range: XS to XXL (6 - 26)

I love that I was just at that place and never saw it in the catalog. Dang dab it. I don't feel like going back after it . Oh dear. Oh well. I have the no. I will wait until JoAnn's has another sale. Ha.
Thanks so much for you looking up the pattern
I like that style too. I think of one like that when I think of the old fashioned ones.
I am in Roanoke Va. Nice to have a friend from here living not to far?
Do you know where Roanoke is? Pinkroses

I love Roanoke. We are in Richmond. I got a really bad sunburn in Roanoke in 1988! LOL....I know that sounds odd, but we were in the process of moving to NC from Illinois one summer and my husband at that time was doing some training in Roanoke. I sold the house and moved to Roanoke to live in a hotel with him and our son for a couple of weeks. I didn't realize at the time how much more intense the sun was up in the mountains. I was an Illinois city girl that rarely saw any sun on my skin....Oh, girl.....I was lobstered and throbbing! LOL....well, that being said....Why don't you email me and we can arrange a sewing. I'd be glad to either loan you the pattern or sew one of the jackets up for you if you give me your measurements and send the fabric. I have plenty of thread.

Georgann.......Hopefully we VA farmgirls can arrange a VA farmgirl meet up soon. There was alot of interest when I posted it earlier.

Hey well. what do you know? I am sorry you got such a sun burn
I have to stay out of the sun ; because of really fair skin and
my mecdines.
I would love to meet with yal. but don't get to travel much because of health problems. Pinkroses.

Love it! Think how cute it would be in some nice flowered chintz for the Spring. The bag is pretty nifty too! I just might have to make this one for me too! ( And yes it will also be the + sized version!)
Thanks for the topic and the link!

with a happy heart

Susan, those smocks will be perfect for when you are stirring up soap. There was a movie from the 60's where the main female star was an artsy person and wore that smock....can't remember who it was, but I see them in my mind's eye. Be sure to post the smocks when you are done with them!! What type of fabric did you cut for them? Are they long, or short. It would be a real easy matter to lengthen them if longer was wanted. Can hardly wait to see the smocks completed!!

Glad you are feeling better. I want to oder some of your wonderful soap soon....it just looks so yummy!!

Thank you for your kind words! Yeah...I know what movie you are talking about...but cant remember which one either. I have one cut from a red ticking (lighter weight than actual ticking fabric) and one from a beautiful tiny floral, lightweight cotton blend...so feminine and delicate. I will get on these in the next day or so. I am excited to get them finished as well. I am thinking they will be "hip length" not the bottom of the hips...but mid-hip if that makes sense. I will post pictures when they are made.
