Some years back, I took a college course on Missouri Folklore. The basic premise was that it is VERY important to listen to the stories being told by our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, and to RECORD them as they are being told, in the language of the storyteller. Don't correct grammar, don't add words or finish sentences. Just record and write exactly as it is being said. These are priceless pieces of our heritage and once these folks are gone, the history is gone with no way of retrieving it.
My final paper was an interview with my grandmother who taught school in a one-room schoolhouse, grades K-8 in one class. She boarded with a family who lived close to the school, and went home on the weekends. The school was heated by a wood-burning stove, so it was not unusual to have lunch cooking while she was teaching. What a way to learn...YUM!
Hope you can find the article, Kathy, and I hope our "wonderful woman" is still doing well with her garden!
I've tried to find a suitable exercise video for women my age...but they haven't made one called "Buns of Putty" |

Looking at the photos, I can almost hear her chuckling at all the attention we are giving her.

Kathy, She is just wonderful. Her pictures do tell a story on their own.
