..... and I was SO proud of myself for bidding $1 on a box of German china saucers at our local auction house last night. I was going to put them under my plants (and put my dinner dishes back in the cupboard) After my successful bid, the lady across the aisle leaned over and told me that the crystal sandwhich plates would probably fetch a good price if I knew how to use eBay.....
So, as I got my purchases out of the car and started to bring them in, my boot caught the tip of a heavy iron engine part hubby left in the garage - not his fault! He tried to let me out in the driveway but I thought it would be easier in the garage! and I went flying - flat down on my face. The saucers all went flying onto the drive - smash, crash, bang! and I have only 3 of the sandwich plates left- everything else is in pieces....
Ah well, it was only a dollar....

Oh what a drag! I'm so sorry that you lost your goodies before even using them...I would have been very pouty, to say the least. Did you get hurt?!

That is a bummer. :( Like you said, at least it was only a dollar. Maybe you could use the pieces for a little mosaic project!

Yes, you should do the mosaic and I bet you will think that your $1 still was a wonderful investment. Doggoneit!!!

I did get hurt but only a little - a bruise on my knee and another on my elbow, a little stiff this morning but just took some ibuprofen and I'm sure I'll be better sooon.
DH and I washed up the remaining sandwich plates - well actually, after some research, I find out they are SAUCERS in the Anchor Hocking "Sandwich" PATTERN. Luckily he was carrying the three pressed glass cake plates I bought for $5 and some of the other stuff, so not everything was broken.
I got a bunch of doilies (maybe 10 or so) they are hand-crocheted but a little yellowed - I'm going to soak them in Oxy-Clean and if the sun stays out maybe put them out in the sun to dry... They were in a box with a hand-embroidered dresser scarf and a redwork table topper and some other linens - all for $4.00, and I got a box of baking pans for my daughter for only $3.00. So overall, I guess I got away with a pretty good haul for less than $20, even if I did suffer for it! LOL...

You can still say "Let them eat cake" and have the plates to serve it on! Sorry about the ouches and the broken stuff, that happened to me this Christmas with my MIL's gift! Talk about embarrassed!

there is indeed some great 'china' jewelery you can make from china shards .. or put bunches of the pieces (smaller ones) in a glass vase filled with water and flowers.
hank once hit a wall rack filled with a collection of beautiful antique china .. and CRASH!!! every piece broke!
but then .. again .. i once went to a church bazaar and saw a box of china being poured into a larger box for people to 'root through' .. i found a sweet little 'chocolate pot' .. marked R.S. Prussia ... FOR ONE DOLLAR ,, about a year later, i discovered it was collectible and sold it for $200. (i had good intentions of giving it to a dear aunt of mine ... gave her the money instead!) (found money i think that is called.
you will find lots more treasures in your lifetime! xo

ouch! glad you weren't hurt too badly. sounds like you found a few nice things though, even though some of them didn't quite make the journey into their new home..
