2018 FEBRUARY - SHILLYSHALLY SWAP
Ladies! I purchased Mary Janes Idea Book and found some really neat stuff in it, one being the ShillyShally! What a handy item to have on hand!
A ShillyShally you ask? Well it is simple! It is a 36x36 cut of fabric which can be used for cooling your neck to covering your lap whilst you shell peas! It can cover your head or it can be used to wipe little hands and faces! There are so many uses for a ShillyShally!
Each ShillyShally will be hemmed and the embellishing will be left to the receiver.
FEBRUARY THEME: Fabric with Red in it!
GUIDELINES FOR SHILLYSHALLY:
1. Choose a 36x36 piece of Cotton fabric. Prewash your fabric to cover any skrinkage prior to cutting so it will be true to size. Trim any selvage prior to hemming.
2. You will put a hem around the ShillyShally using embroidery, ribbon, rickrack, etc.
3. You will include embroidery floss for your swap partner to use to embellish her ShillyShally
4. Please, no other tucks required. Let's keep it simple!

Ok can I clarify?? We are making ONE shilly shally? And we are supposed to embellish before sending or we are NOT supposed to but should send embroidery floss for the receiver? I'm pretty sure I can do this one.

The ONLY place I’ve seen this useful, cotton shawl, carry all, anything, etc was in MJF Idea Book, page 318.
Adding pic only. It appears pinkish in picture. MUST be a solid color fabric and hemmed.
You can see Embroidery has been added... this is for the are Recipient of your Shilly to do.

I reread page 318 in the idea book and it does not state that the ShillyShally has to be a solid color. I agree embroidery will show up better on a solid color; however, I don't see any reason for not using a print fabric. So I will leave this up to each participant. I, for one, enjoy the many colorful prints of fabric that I would not otherwise use unless it was a ShillyShally!
ShillyShally is a name that MaryJane came up with. I also did a Google and came up with a definition same as Linda.

When I googled it I found out Shilly Shally isn't a thing, it has a meaning of being slow, not knowing what you want, etc. I'm curious as to how it came to be used as a shawl-like accessory. LOL!

Oops.. I stand corrected...I really reread the short description and combined two,thoughts. She said that she had made her first one from pure cotton. I combined the “pure cotton” into “solid color”. That will teach me to skim read.. it’s true. The mind is a dangerous thing, especially when one is soo busy.
