Rock painting and hiding has become very big in my area. So we are going to join in :)

Rules will be simple.

You can paint, decoupage, sticker, bling or use any other medium to decorate your 3 smaller rocks.

You will send all three to your partner sister. One for them to keep if they want and 2 to hide for smiles. (you cant always see who gets your rock but that is ok.)

All I ask that you share pictures(if possible) and stories of where you have hidden your rocks.

Last day for sign ups is January 25th.
Partners posted 26th.
Mail out by February.....(we extended :))

I am a simple rock
Painted by loving hands.
I have traveled many miles
Across this great, great land.

Now entrusted with my care
You’ll hide me in a special place.
So that soon I might be found
And bring a smile to a lovely face.

Beth

Lets bring on some smiles!!!

Are you talking about painting rocks, then taking them and leaving them in hospital or clinics, office buildings, parks etc. so others find them, smile and have a better day??? I have a young friend whose little girl had a brain tumor a few years back. She and the little girl do this. They even made the news.

901( Memphis Area Code) Rocks started here in Memphis by 2 moms who wanted to get their kids FOCUSED away from all the violence going on in our country and on the news everyday and do something good for everyone. They started a face book page 901 rocks. It grew form there. They were featured on the national News. It took off! around the country! I have been painting rocks for 2 years. My daughter and granddaughter hide them. Many, Many are hidden in and around St. Jude, Ronald McDonald and Target House, where parents of sick children live while they are in Memphis. It is a lot of fun. People hide them at the Police Station steps, Fire Dept., local parks, Hospitals, Nursing Homes. Anywhere and everywhere! Some are masterpieces and some are painted by precious 5 year olds. They make anyone smile when they find one!

I think this would be a fun swap! I will check back later with you.

Marilyn, Thats what we do too. I am not an artist, just a craft painter. While most people liked painting on smooth store bought stones, it was fun for me and Lily June to look in the driveway for special shapes! I decoupaged the Barbie one.

Darlene, Love the marble idea!!
Ruthie, we do small stones. I would think in a swap, Just 1 or 2 small ones in a small mailer envelope shouldn't be expensive. If Beth think so and we get enough interest. Thank you Beth for the idea! They make great paperweights for your desk and I have one in my bathroom by my lighthouse nightlight on my vanity!

You can buy a bag of small smooth stones at dollar stores and Walmart.
Connie, your driveway hunts remind me of a time when my grand daughters were two and five. New kaliche was brought in and our lane was made new once more. Every afternoon the girls and I would look for unusual rocks. We found fossils, but there was quartz running through the kaliche which made it sparkly. I pulled the wagon which held their buckets. Then we would come inside, where they wrapped each precious stone in paper, put it back into the small buckets. Then they insisted we place them up on the highest shelf in Bapa's closet...so no one would take other precious stones.

I'd like to join in. Not sure how they'll look, but this was an idea I was contemplating for a camp kid's craft. So it would be good to see how it goes.

This is a great idea, but I cannot complete this by the mail-out time, so I will have to pass.

Connie - love the rocks you have painted. If I can find the paint I bought and have yet to use, I will paint some and leave them around here. My driveway has yielded lots of sooth rocks; I just haven't had the time to paint them.

Farmgirl hugs,
