We have a red plate that we received as a wedding gift that says "You are special today" in script going around it. Hubby and I decided to pull it out for special occasions, including birthdays, but so far it's only been used for his. He seems to forget where it is on my birthday. Oh well. Now that we have a little one, we'll use it for him (and future siblings) too!

My family of origin's birthday tradition was always one present before school in the morning and the rest that evening (or afternoon) when the family came over for cake and ice cream. There were ALWAYS M&Ms and peanuts in little wooden dishes out for these cake and ice cream parties so when we just threw Jackson's 1st party a couple of weeks ago I put these out too. My hubby said "great idea on the snacks!" and I said "hmm...I guess I didn't even think about it, you just HAVE to have M&Ms and peanuts at a birthday party!"

My Grama and Grampa used to always call us on our birthday morning to sing HB to us on the phone together and now my folks have continued this tradition. That was always a very special phone call to get...how cool to be able to answer the phone in the morning when you were five and KNOW that it's for YOU!
