I just read Frannie's post about her Valentine's Tea Party in Kentucky and that clever Tracey mentioned a cyber tea party in her post there. Now, THAT sounds like fun. Does anyone know how to do this? Maybe set a time and all who could be there would log-on? With scones and tea at hand? Maybe wear a fancy hat? Tracey, did you make this concept up or is it done elsewhere? Any ideas?

I don't even know what a "chat" is. It would be nice for it to be part of MJ's forum and open only to the members of the connection. Don't you think?

chat is, a stream of conversation instead of message board conversation. You chat like you would in person, but through your keyboard...the chat would not be open to anyone who didn't have the information and some chats let you keep the chat for archive.
Anyone over there ar the farm think a chatroom could be set up on the site for forum members to have a weekly or monthly tea time chat? Make it so you have to be a registered forum member to be able to chat, that way no one can come trolling along in a chat room....okay, now I am off to chores....

gurlz i've done this on a couple of the primitive boards .. but it's been a long time .. they are all DELPHI (whatever that is!) sponsored boards .. and there is a CHAT ROOM thread on the board .. the girls all just decide on a time to meet .. and chitty-chat away. they tend to go in toooo many directions for me .. cuz' it seems 12 different girls are having 12 different conversations .. and by the time you pop in .. the conversation is on to something different! and people are popping in and out constantly so by the time you answer something .. or ask something .. they are gone .. and you kinda' feel like you are talking to yourself.
My style of Cyber Tea Party, would probably be a little more 'controlled' .. with a MOMMA who would choose a THEME and 'subjects' to talk about for a given time-period .. i think it could be done right here in the forum. We would just choose one of the headings .. like ACROSS THE FENCE .. subject: "______" CYBER TEA PARTY ... and at an appointed time .. we would all click into this thread .. 'the MOMMA would start the tea party .. by asking everyone to 'introduce' themselves .. and each posting would show up in turn. Now, beforehand .. a little 'agenda' could be established .. such as:
EVERYONE WEAR AN APRON AND A HAT (AND GLOVES IF YOU WISH). IT WOULD BE GRANDE IF EVERYONE HAS HAD A PHOTO TAKEN OF THEM IN THEIR 'TEA ATTIRE' AND CAN POST IT.
EVERYONE WOULD CHOOSE A CHINA TEA CUP, SAUCER AND 'PRETTY DISH' FOR THEIR YUMMIES.
EVERYONE WOULD PREPARE TEA SANDWICHES, COOKIES OR SOME OTHER YUMMY TEA PARTY FARE. (BE READY TO GIVE YOUR RECIPE FOR SOMETHING YOU MADE .. HAVE IT TYPED OUT AHEAD OF TIME SO YOU CAN POST IT WHEN THE "MOMMA" ASKS FOR RECIPES).
BE PREPARED TO 'TELL US A 'STORY' OF THE TEACUP AND SAUCER YOU CHOSE TO USE!
IF SOMEONE WISHES TO 'TEACH' A LITTLE 'TEA PARTY PROJECT' .. THE SUPPLY LIST WOULD BE POSTED AHEAD OF TIME .. SO EVERYONE COULD GATHER THESE SUPPLIES .. THE 'TEACHER' COULD WALK EVERYONE THROUGH THE PROJECT .. STEP BY STEP .. ALLOWING FOR 'QUESTIONS' FROM THE OTHER TEA PARTY GUESTS.
A 'THEME' AND THEME-RELATED TOPICS FOR YOUR TEA PARTY IS ALWAYS VERY NICE. (LIKE, FOR INSTANCE AT MY UPCOMING 'VALENTINE TEA PARTY' .. I WILL TELL EVERYONE THE STORY OF 'ST. VALENTINE'. THEN I WILL ASK THE GUESTS TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES AND TELL US ABOUT "THEIR FIRST KISS".
ABOUT AN HOUR'S TIME LIMIT SHOULD PROBABLY BE PUT ON THE PARTY .. AND ONLY GUESTS WHO HAVE 'SIGNED UP' SHOULD PARTICIPATE .. ALTHOUGH ANYONE WOULD BE FREE TO 'PEEK IN'.
THE MOMMA .. MIGHT CONJURE UP A LITTLE GAME WITH A 'THEME APPROPRIATE' PRIZE FOR THE WINNER. THE MOMMA HOSTESS COULD PROVIDE THIS LITTLE PRIZE .. OR FOR A VERY NICE PRIZE .. EVERYONE PARTICIPATING COULD SEND A DOLLAR OR TWO TO THE 'MOMMA' WHO WOULD BUY A VERY NICE 'PRIZE' AND MAIL IT TO THE WINNER.
GOSH .. THE IDEAS ARE ENDLESS .. BUT THOSE ARE A FEW 'STARTERS'.
I WILL BE HAPPY TO HOSTESS ONE OF THESE WHEN I RETURN FROM OHIO IN MARCH. WILL 'PEEK IN' IF ONE IS DONE SOONER. (I'M SO EXCITED .. I WILL BE TAKING MY NEW 'LAP TOP COMPUTER' TO OHIO WITH ME. BUT AGAIN, I WILL BE GIVING LOTS OF TIME AND ATTENTION TO THOSE LITTLE ONES SO WON'T BE ON LINE AS MUCH.)
IF THIS IS SUCCESSFULL .. FUTURE 'THEME' FARMGIRL cyber TEA PARTIES COULD BE HELD .. AND MAYBE WOULD MAKE A FUN 'ARTICLE' FOR ONE OF MARYJANE'S MAGAZINE ISSUES!

Frannie, the creativity just oozes out of you. You have a good follow-up on the tea-party theme. How about it? Agreed? MB

| I would SO be in on this!!! :D:D:D! I'm just reading about tea ceremonies and such now, and we actually did a high tea for dinner the other night, cause I was so into it. I've been drinking my morning tea with milk and honey for the past three days (something I"ve NEVER done before!), and I"m just loving the whole tea thing! :) I can contribute resources, I'm good at digging things up on the net. :) |

Sounds great! Frannie, when you return, I vote you be the "Momma" (not that you are old enough to be all of our Momma's, but you seem to have the experience and ideas!) Keep us posted and consider me "signed up" to participate!

I'm in too, but I have noticed that MJ's does have a high volume posting stopgap. (Can't think of what it is called right now) But one time that I was on here, there most have been alot of girlfriends on at the same time, because it popped up that I couldn't post within 60 seconds of my last post due to high traffic on this site. So keep that in mind. It might be better to find a free/private chat room to host the tea party in. A site that is set up to take high volume posting. Just a thought. I'll email the forum IT guru and ask about it. G
