So where do you get yours?
Who's the best at shipping?
What places are your favorites?
This year I ordered from:
Bountiful Gardens- love their mixes, quick shipping, already have my seeds from them
FEDCO - Interesting catalog, placed my first order with them, no seeds yet.
Jung Seeds - Ordered asparagus, jerusalem artichoke, horsereadish from them, not yet received.
Gurney's - Ordered their specials on strawberries, raspberry, & a plum tree, not yet received.
Can't wait to get things sprouting!!!

I ordered from Renee's Garden . She has several varieties of heirloom seeds.
I really liked the way the seed packets were too. Kind of artsy.:0)

Fast shipping too.
Now..I'm looking for a place to buy everbearing raspberries from.
I'll let you know where I find those at and if I'm pleased.
In the past I have ordered from Park Seeds and am always pleased with the way they ship the plants. I have bought alot of roses and daylilies from them, and hope to order again in the summer from them, when some of the roses go on sale.

I'm in Canada, so I tend to order all my seeds from Canadian sources. I prefer smaller companies that focus on organic and heritage varieties. Here are my favorites:

LOL I'm such a city girl! I bought my seed at the Dollar tree, and Walmart! LOL I haven't got the money to order, but this year, I'm going to try my hand at saving some of my own seed.

This year I got them from Seeds of Change and Totally Tomatoes (but this was before I heard that Monsanto had bought them out. I will not order from them again)

This year I ordered my seeds Pine Tree Seeds and I love them. They were fast, good customer service and nothing was backordered. They have a lot of heirlooms, a huge selection, and their prices are unbelievably low. And their packets are cute with good info. I ordered some seed flats and book from Veseys, and I really like them. The only drawback is they're in Canada, and it's taking about 3-4 weeks for my order to arrive (though I knew this when I placed it). It's just so hard to wait this time of year! Last year I ordered from Victory Seeds, and I like them just as much and for the same reasons as Pine Tree.

Speaking of Richters, I should mention that I ordered some live plants from them last summer (as opposed to just seeds), and I thought the way they packaged them for shipping was quite ingenious. They seem to have devised a very good method of nestling the little plants in various configurations of cardboard to ensure that nothing gets squashed or jostled or otherwise injured. They arrived here very happy indeed!

| I order from Seeds of Change, usually. This year, I'll probably also order from Jung's, Seed Savers, and Abundant Life. I'm getting fruit trees/berry bushes from Burnt Ridge and Trees of Antiquity. |

I'm going to order some things from Johnny's in Maine. Elliott Coleman who wrote the book The Four Season Harvest workswith them. They have alot of organic seeds and the most herbs of any catalog I've seen yet.

What a great collection of web sites to order from. I too am not ordering from Seed of Change because their new "father" company, Monsanto.
I went to a pemaculture gardening class & they showed all of the "natural" and "organic" companies that have been bought out by "big brother". It's a crying shame & unfortunately money talks.
But so does ordering from companies that have the support form us farmgirls.
Go garden girls!!!

| I can't find anything about that on the web...I just called them, and they said that they recently hired someone new to run their call center, but that no one has bought seeds of change. Does anyone have more info. on this? |

Well, this has been a rumor for some time now, but I can't confirm it either. Last year Monsanto did purchase Seminis Inc, which does own some familiar names in the seed business, including: Rispens & Son, Rupp Seeds, Seedway, Stokes Seeds, Rocky Mountain Seed Company, and Snow Seed Company.

NIchols, The Cook's Garden, Burpee( which now owns The Cook's Garden. booo...), Thompson and Morgan (unusual flower and perrenial seeds), and whatever I discover along the way. I used to buy from Johnn's Selected Seed too but haven't in a while.
I live and used to work in "Burpee Country" and saw an enormous change in the company when it was sold in the 80's. They used to have test gardens just outside of Doylestown near their Bed and Breakfast called Fordhook Farm. Don't know if it's still up and running but it was an interesting concept.
I try to buy organic seed when possible, but if there is an unusual variety that I can't buy elsewhere I will give it a go. Also I NEVER buy seeds that are pre treated with fungicide or other chemicals. Who needs to start out in the hole?

My favorite catalogs are seeds of change, seed savers and baker creek, but there are a number of places I want to try this year...
Mostly trees sources that are local in order to get varieties which I know can grow here.
There is a place in Central Texas called Novak's, which has mainly fruit trees and berry bushes. I think I found their site listed at one of the gardening sites that had a list of seed companies with catalogs. Can't remember where that was.
Trees of Antiquity has a great catalog for trees - fruit, nut and otherwise. They might be the exception to my "buying local" promise.
I'll probably order olive trees directly from the olive groves here in Texas.
I also buy a lot of seeds where I can find them - at the dollar store, at the hardware store, garden centers and Home Depot stores. Depends on what brands of seeds they carry and what varieties they offer. If it's inexpensive, I'll usually try them once. Most grow.

If I order things I always use Michigan Bulb Co. For my seeds I just get them here at home at the feed store. So far, I have been pleased with the seeds. Have been pleased with the Michigan Bulb Co. but will be checking out other sites.
