Oooh I love them both Tasha, especially the one you made from jeans. What is your secret for finding time to do this?
Blessings.... Sarah

Heh. I was just thinking "what is her secret for being *able* to do this?" :-) You are very talented Tasha - I've always admired people who can just "whip things up" without any real pattern to speak of. I think it takes a certain kind of brain (my husband is like that when it comes to home projects - I fear I will forever struggle with my lack of envisioning ;-) I know that you had posted elsewhere about selling your wares in a shop, but is there somewhere where those of us here who are interested might be able to make a purchase (or place an order) or two? |

Most of my skirts are going to be a s-m-l freesize, the jeans though-and this is testement to how much weight I have lost-are an Old Navy size 16-I am now in a 10!
I will have clothing on sale on my website (that is the chore tomorrow-Marcus is coming up to help me!!), but if you are interested in something, email me off the board and we can surely discuss.
I am blessed, honestly, to have kids that can entertain themselves while I sew. When they get ornery, I wait until nap time or I work while they sleep. Zoe likes to sit on fabric while I cut sometimes, so I usually cut while she sleeps and then sew while they play in the craft room near me, or upstairs int he playroom.
thank you so muuch for all of your nice comments!

mostly just Yoga and eating right...my usual routine. I have been going to tha women's gym, but I am not going to renew the monthly membership at it's end. I feel like I can do it just fine without going there and it's too much temptation to fall back into an eating disorder if there is a scale around-scales are forbidden in our home...I have had serious probelms with them in the past so we are better off....I have learned though, after having two babies, that it takes me just about a year BEFORE I EVEN START to lose my baby weight...oy.

Nice to know there's still hope for me. I was 40 lbs overweight when I got pg, and I gained 50 lbs. I 25 lbs down at one week postpartum, and there I've sat. My daughter is now one year old, so maybe I"ll start to lose weight now too??? *hopehopehope* |

LOVE THEM! Again!! I am fond of the long plaid skirt...very, very cute!! I'm working on a full dress for one of my daughters. Need to attache the skirt to the bodice. She picked out all of the fabrics from my stash...very bright and used some of her favorite vintage in this one. She also picked out three different colored buttons for the bodice.......post it when I'm done.
Anyway, you are such a talented seamstress!! LOVE your creations. Just want to let you know I haven't been able to get to the post office. Mom has been very ill the past week. I'm not getting much sleep right now either.
Congrats on the great weight loss.

Very cute Tasha, I like the plaid one best, very old fashioned looking. Is that wool or flannel or some other? NANCY JO

Oh my gosh Kim, My husband is of Clan Campbell. Our name is Schultz though....his grandmother was a Campbell. Small world. Our name Schultz though was changed from a very long name by his grandfather on his father's side. It should, be: Smialkowski. *g* Now that is a mouthful! Oh, and please, please post photos of you and your daughter in your new beautiful skirts!! G

Georgann, If you go to my deviantArt page and look at my favorites, you'll see the kidlet. She's a doll!
I guess my other post didn't go through, I was saying no wonder I felt a connection with you!! As soon as she comes home for a visit, I'll take a pic of her in her skirt.
Blessed Be!

Tasha, wonderful job of whipping up a skirt with no pattern and transforming old jeans into a beautiful, arty skirt. Thank you for sharing your photos.
Also, you inspired me to get back to the machine and make some things. This week I made myself flannel pj bottoms and a magician's cape for my son. When I told him it was a magic cape, he told me I was the one with the magic as the magic was making it from two pieces of flat fabric. it's so nice when your children appreciate the work involved.
So, now this weekend I will have to try my hand at making flannel skirts.

Clare....the cape sounds wonderful! I loved the story about his old cape....thanks for sharing that!!
Tasha: Your box went out today. It was shipped priority, so you should get it this week. There is a length of rose print flannel. If it won't work for the diapers, then it will make a pretty little gowns for your girls! I hope they enjoy the dresses. My girls loved each of them. G

I love your skirts, Tasha. I am not a seamstress at all. I used to say that I sew if someone holds a gun to me head, LOL. I think it was because 1-my first encounter with a sewing machine was with this mean old home ec teacher back in 7th grade-not a good experience. Then, 2-as an adult I never seemed to have a place to set it up and leave it up & lack of time with 3 little boys. And finally, 3-I just don't do it well. Sewing is just not where my talents lie. (Hey, but I sing beautifully!) I have made period pants for my boys when they were younger for our living history programs. They were super easy with a draw string.
I'd like to make a recycled skirt and be able to say "I did it!" I have worn (store bought) hippie girl skirts for a long time but now want to venture out into making my own (I really like the quilt).
Could you (and any other farmgirls!) give me some instruction of how you make such fun skirts?
Thanks SO much!
Vanessa

And after going to "Aunt George's House" it looks like you could also give me some pointers! Both of you girls make wonderful skirts. I want to do one too!!!
Georgann, I just moved to here to Hatteras last June but used to live (for 8 years) around the corner from you in the Bon Air area of Richmond. Lived right at Chippenham, Huguenot and Cherokee on Weyburn. Shopped at the Thrifty Quaker all the time! Wish I'd known about MJF then, it would have been great to hook up with you.
Thanks again to both of you (and anyone else!) for helping me make my own skirt.
