When I received my copy of the Idea Book, I was skimming through it and reading a few of the side stories. I came across the one on the shillyshally. It caught my eye. I have made several shillyshallies. The one I kept for myself has come in very handy this summer. I have used it wet to cool off my neck when it's been very hot working outside. I have used it to hold the ice bag on my foot when I sprained it coming out of the chicken coop one evening. And I use it instead of newspaper to put my beans on as I string and break them. As Maryjane said in her article it can be used for almost anything.

Fun to hear the Shillyshally word again and the uses.

I will have to look for this book, I am not sure what a Shillyshally is.

Hi Tiana,
A shillshally is a three foot square of 100% cotton fabric. It can be used a dozen different ways. Wet it and wear it around your neck to cool down or as a bandana when you are having a bad hair day. Etc.

Shillyshally: an undecided or hesitating manner. That's according to a dictionary but maybe they just thought it would be cute and different.

MaryJane called it that in her Ideal book on pg 318. I think she was having fun playing with words.

I need to look that page up again as I have forgotten all about ShillyShally! I love her Idea book and have enjoyed making many of the projects from it.

When I was a little weed I received a book titled "Make It Book". It had all kinds of ideas for kids crafts including sewing, knitting and even some wood working projects if I remember correctly. I made almost everything in that book. Mary Jane's Idea Book is for me a grownup gal's version of my Make It Book.

I just received my idea book today and was just reading about the ShillyShally. Looks like something that will be handy around my house! These remind me of a baby receiving blanket, ya know the small ones back in the day and since I have a new grandson I can sure put a Shillyshally to good use!!

Nancy,
What a great book that would have been to have as a child.
