Welcome to the MJF Spring Dishcloth Swap!

By popular demand, this swap is open to knitters AND crocheters. Dishcloths are where we meet on common ground!

Here's the deal: Send two hand-knit or hand-crocheted dishcloths in springy colors to your pal plus some springy fun items (think garden seeds, Easter chocolates, stitch markers, tea/coffee and the like).

HOW TO SIGN UP:

Send an email to me (dishclothswap AT yahoo DOT com) with the following information:
* Your full name and MJF screen name
* email address
* mailing address
* answers to the following questions:
1. Favorite colors? What color is your kitchen?
2. Do you knit or crochet?
3. Do you have a blog or web site?
4. Anything special that your partner should know about you to help her find just the right things?

IMPORTANT: YOU MUST SIGN-UP BY EMAIL AND PROVIDE THE INFORMATION REQUESTED ABOVE. IF I DO NOT RECEIVE ALL OF THE INFORMATION, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.

Sign-up closes on February 7th (edited 2/5/07), and packages should be mailed by March 15th.

This swap must have an even number of Farmgirls to work since partners will be matched up one-to-one (you'll send directly to the same person from whom you receive a package). No limit on the number of partner-pairs.

FAQs:

Q: Who can join?

A: This is open to all MJF Farmgirls on this forum including our international girls - knitters and crocheters alike!

Q: How big should my dishcloths be?

A: Standard size dishcloths, or thereabouts. Dont send any that are too teeny or too huge! Pattern is completely up to you, but they MUST be hand-knit or hand-crocheted and you must include at least two dishcloths.

Q: What should I use to make my dishcloths?

A: Please use only cotton or other all-natural fiber yarn for your dishcloths. No synthetics or acrylics.

Q: How will I know who my pal is?

A: After sign-up closes, I will e-mail you with your partner's mailing information and preferences.

Q: What happens if I can't send my package by March 15th?

A: Please do not sign up unless you can commit to this deadline. That said, Farmgirls will completely understand if life gets in the way and you need a bit of extra time. Just drop a line to your pal and to me as soon as possible!

Q: How much should I spend on my pal?

A: This is up to you. However, I would suggest a minimum spend of $15, NOT including postage.

If there are other questions, let me know here. Okay Swappers, here we go!

This swap sounds AWESOME! But I son't know how to knit! I crocheted when I was a kid but that was oh so long ago! I am a fast learner and I have been looking for an excuse to learn crochet again. I would love to sign up but only if the person knew I was a beginner and my dishcloth might be..well..."challanged". Let me know if anyone is willing to take on a NEWBIE!

Dishcloths are ONE SIZE FITS ALL! I say, Julie, pick up your crochet hook and dive in again! If you start practicing now, you'll have another two weeks to get your two dishcloths done and maybe make a few "practice" ones beforehand to test your skills. They should be "Farmgirl Pretty" but come on, we all know that these are going to be used to scrub pans, wipe counters and dry in funny positions on our kitchen faucets. Don't worry too much...welcome to the swap!

Catherine :)

p.s. Ooh, but don't forget to send me that email with the info to be "official!"

I am a novice crocheter and a dish cloth w/cotton yarn was my very 1st project, tho' in all honesty my 1st & 2nd cloth was not exactly a perfect square...LOL! but I am much improved.
My favorite patteren is the shell patteren.
I will sign up for the exchange,,I can hardly wait and I promise,,,whome ever I am paired up with, my dishcloth for you will not look like my very 1st or 2nd one... hahaha!

Sorry, I'll wait for the next swap, I use my knitting machine to do my knitting so the "hand-knit" qualification would exclude me.....

Oh, I think machine-knit is the same as hand-knit in this situation. I just meant that they have to be handmade and made on a machine with your hands is still handmade...right?

Hi Margie! Got your email about signing up for the swap - just haven't gotten to replying to all of them yet this morning! You should totally sign up! Send me another email to dishclothswap AT yahoo DOT com (replace the "AT" and "DOT" with the usual email punctuation) and include the information listed above in the first post (your name, address, answers to the questions, etc.). You will NOT be included in the swap until I receive this info, though I've got you on the list and know to be watching out for your email to arrive.

Regarding the sock knitting, let me think about it...I've got a ton of projects lined up already and may be able to squeeze this one in, but if I can't, I bet I know some Local Knitters who can!

FYI

It's okay to send an email to me through the Forum here if you're having troubles sending one to the yahoo email, but it's MUCH easier for me if you just send it there! That way, I have all of the emails in one handy place instead of having to forward them from my regular account over there. I don't want to forget about anyone because your message was sitting in my personal email account!

Thanks!

Catherine :)

p.s. For the few of you who did already send your replies to my regular email, yes, I got them! I'll post the list of who's "in" when Jack goes down for a nap this morning...time to play now!

'morning cmandle,
I tried to go into the dishcloth swap address you listed above, but for some reason I keep getting a Blog error...(probably just me-I don't profess to be computer suavy). Shall I go to the "procrastiknitter" address instead or did my origional email come through...I don't want to miss out on this fun activity. Infact I think I will run over to JoAnn's Fabric Store on my lunch break today & pick up several skiens of different colored cotton dishcloth yarn and start crocheting this weekend...the weather has been gloomy & rainy out here this past week,,,,yes, even So.California has it's days of yucky weather...

Oh, absolutely knitting on a home-knitting machine is still hand-made. There is a lot of hand-manipulation of individual stitches if you are doing anything other than stockinette rectangles, although it does go a little faster.

OK, then, sign me up! There are some really nice machine-knit tuck stitch dishcloth patterns that I've been wanting to try. I'll send you an email with the requested info...

I'll sign up too. Now keep in mind, my hands aren't what they used to be with holding yarn and I do have alot on my plate, so I'd be glad to exchange with someone who says they are a beginner and that they are really hesitant to exchange. My crochet stitches aren't what they used to be! I have lots of kitchen weight cotton yarn (lion brand) around here somewhere...I make utilitarian type dishclothes, so hope someone is not dissapointed! LOL. I'll get the email information to send and email you in a few minutes!
