May be looking to buy a sewing machine. Wondering vintage or new . Why? Wanting to use for possible quilting.

Hi Ruthie, I'm partial to Janome sewing machines, but that is what I am used to. I tried a Pfaff before I bought my newest machine, it was really nice, and sewed beautifully, but was just too much machine for me. They had other less expensive machines, which also sewed well. But I had been looking at the particular machine I bought for about 6 months, and ended up with the one I have now. My sister have Bernina machines. She also has a "vintage" Bernina 807 mini magic, that is her favorite machine. Its all metal and is a little work horse.
I don'y know if that helps.

I have a Babylock Symphony, was a Christmas gift from my husband seven years ago, perfect sewing and quilting machine due to it's large throat. I have made six quilts so far, from throw to king size. I have had no problem yet but that is probably because I safety pin the layers every six inches, but I only do straight topstitch. I would love to invest in a professional computerized quilter for decorative topstitching, but that is several years and research away.

Well, I just got my 25th or 26th (can't remember) sewing machine today. It was given to me. It is my 3rd Singer 301. This one is in a cabinet.
I like Janome and my Singer Featherweights as my favorites. I have many vintage Singers - from treadle to Featherweights to 301s. LOL!

I am a Singer girl, but just bought a Husqvarna Viking and am happy with it. My most treasured though is my featherweight, Jemma (named for both grandmothers) AND my Grandmother's White in a large cabinet. My Grandpa bought it for her in 1945. It runs beautifully and is a treasure.

As for my 301s, they are all a bit different; one is in a cabinet and came without attachments, one I got with its table with a lot of attachments, and the third came without a case but with attachments. I learned to sew on my mother's featherweight.

I use my featherweight for my Rug braiding guild meetings. It is very portable and durable for being transported.

I am sewing on my third old Bernina 830...the work horse. It has more power than the black anniversary Singer that my husband bought for me several years ago. I love it. When my first one died, after 25 years of my use, I cried.it was used when I purchased it
