Jo - way too kind. I am so glad you like the yarn. The yarn is from my "Sugar" (one of my angora goat mommies) This was her baby fiber and she is the mother of the white guy in the kitchen. She had a visit with him this morning. Kissed him but was not interested in nursing. Thanks Jo also for the wonderful card - I love the crow.

It's a Raven Grace, they fill the skies of Alaska, we have lots of mythical stories about the Raven here, it is said that the Raven discovered the first human in a shell and brought them salmon and berries. Everything has ravens on it here! There followed me out skiing the other day, they don't sound like crows, the make KWOK sound, chuckle sounds, they are so funny........ I just love my yarn, surprised my husband with the silk cocoons, he thought they were so very neat! thank you! jo

Assistance, please and thanks, Grace and gals. I am not as fiber educated as you all are. What exactly are silk cocoons....natural spun cocoons that you have dyed bright colors?; those acorns are absolutely adorable, too and the yarn looks good enough to eat! Beautiful things, Grace. Nance

Hi Jo - your right - Raven. I have a wonderful book on raven as it weaves it life into different cultures. I even made about 13 years a coat with the raven on the back with shell buttons as many of the different tribes have displayed and worn them. I can only say my head said one thing and I typed another. In fact, your picture of the raven is already being worked into my alter art scrapbook. Thanks again.

Nance you are right! These wonderful little homes are what the silk worm makes to live in while awaiting his or her tranformation. Normally they are then boiled and then they reel the silk off of them one tiny strand at a time to make into fiber to spin and then weave into fabric. I love spinning silk and the cocoons are so much fun to work into other art forms. I dye them and make jewerly, altered art, scrapbooking, you name it. I am in the process of writing a book about this "new" old art medium. Most of all I am just impressed with the ability of these tiny creatures. Thanks for the questions.

Right you are, Jo! I'm so glad to hear that you have some of Grace's lovely yarn and are going to turn it into something special! I've noticed it on her Etsy site before, but my stash is so...well...stocked. I can't justify buying any new yarn! Grace's yarn is gorgeous!

Hi Grace! I love everything on your site! I am taking an art class next month to make a felted wall hanging. I am not yet sure what my motif will be but I feel really drawn to those silk cocoons you have. As I've never done dry felting before, do you think they would lend themselves to that process? I would love to incorporate them. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Megan - there are a couple of ways to incorporte them in what is called needle felting or dry felting. One way is to lay whisps of fiber over the cocoons (not completely covering the cocoon but rather making them as strings to hold the cocoon in place)then needle felt the edges of the fiber to your base felt. It is almost like stiching it in place. Second is I use a tiny hole punch and on a cocoon that is cut in half or even in shapes like stars, flowers, clouds etc., I punch tiny holes so it can either be needle felted or sewn on the felting. There are about ten more ways but that with get you started. Good luck with the class - I have just finished handpainted a dozen felt sheets (from our own sheep) and I must say they turned out great. I will be placing them on etsy soon. Also have ten new handpainted color selections that I have drying that will also be there soon. Last but not least I have some unbelieveable dyed Angora (Mohair) lockets that are being weighted and pictures are being taken for the etsy site too.
I will be also posting the name picks in a while for the kids in the kitchen back on it post here at MJ and on my blog. Give me alittle time - I have to go shovel the decks again because we are having snow for the seventh week in a row.

Thank you grace. I think I'm going to get some and give it a try. I figure if I can't make it work with the felting at very least they will look pretty in a little glass bowl on my coffee table! Thanks for the inspiration!

Jo - Was there an amount you where looking for and what colors? I have a large selection coming out so I do not want you to miss out. Also if you wanted a particular color or combination of colors just ask and I will see what I can do. I love working with my lockets.

Grace, I toured your site and I loved it. You have such beautiful soft handpainted yarns. I want to touch all your yarn! Do you spin them all yourself? I am a self-taught spinner and my yarns are always spun so tightly I would love to learn from someone who can spin so beautifully.

Thanks Brenda for those kind words. I do alot of my own spinning and I do send some of my fibers to a couple of mills I have worked with personally and then I also purchase from organic mills too. I wished you lived closer because I teach around 100 to 175 students a year and I love teaching spinning. If you are spinning on a wheel and it is too tight you need to adjust your wheel tension and then slow down your treddling. If you are using a spindle then you just need to draft out longer and not place so many rotations in your spin. I tell my students that breathing and practice are the two things that will improve you spinning. Spinning is like any art form, the more you can be in touch with your inner thoughts the better our spining will become. When I get on the wheel sometimes I can spin non stop for 9 to 10 hours without even knowing it. If I am upset inside I can not even get an hour done. I wish you great progress with your spinning and if you have questions or even pictures just know I will try to assist.

Grace, I just purchased the Painted Desert yarn and the organic flax. It was just too beautiful to pass up. I waited far too long and missed the "winter mix" yarn you had late last year. It was a lovely blend of white, creamy, pale blues, greyish.....might you be making another batch of that?

Do you have a shop in addition to your Etsy site?

Sandy

I'm heading south for the winter. Some parts of my body already have a head start!

Sandy - Thank you so much for the purchase - all packaged up and ready to go in the mornings mail. I am sorry you miss the Winter Mink but that animal is not longer on the planet and I have not been able to duplicate it with other alpaca. SORRY! I do have a shop on the farm and also in a couple of retail stores. I am so glad you like the yarn and there are many more to come. It is just with the kids in the kitchen half of my day is taken up with bottle feeding. Stay warm and get ready for a package.

Hi Margie I guess it is lost in space. what I wrote was you can easliy open an etsy account - it is free and also you can then go to other sites and purchase and even sell items. If you go back to my site, hit the button(s) to purchase what you wish and then simple follow the directions it is really easy. If you do not wish to do it that way then you can just email me with the order and we can set up payment either thru PayPal or I do take Checks and Money Orders too. Hope that helps and thank you so much for visiting my site. I will check on where that email went. I simply hit the reply button on the email that you sent and according to my computer it went but who knows where it decided to end up. Thankyou for your patience.
