Alright you smart farmgirls, I need some help. As I think about the garden I want to have come spring, I am remembering my biggest obstacle when working outdoors with the kids. Here in Louisiana, we live in mosquito central, and the very real threat of West Nile and other yucky things keeps me worried. Covering up both myself and the kids with pants and long-sleeves is not practical; the sometimes 105 degree summer days would lead to heatstroke. However, I loathe using chemical repellants, because I feel like I am just pumping poison all over my kids, which they then breathe.
Do any of you ladies know of a more natural, or organic way to repell mosquitos that does not involve clothing? |

I actually use lemon....I soak a cloth and place it in my belt loop or around my wrist. Remember I am Canadian, the mosquito is our National bird....

Mooringsport is in the northwest corner, but living right around a major lake (and neighbors that do not follow the basic "no standing water" or high grass orders) means that this is a real problem. The Beat it, and the Skeeter Beater are definitely worth a try. |
