Hello my name is Carla, and I am a coffee addict!!!

Anyone have any suggestions for coffee alternatives and a way to transition off of caffeine? I know I need to cut back but it's very difficult when you feel sluggish and get a headache, etc. I am also very ADD and in an odd way, I focus so much better when under the influence of coffee. I was thinking I could use half regular half decaf but I'm a little worried about exactly how they make it "decaf".

Any thoughts ladies?

Carla

I took myself off of caffeine a few years back by switching slowly. If I had three cups of coffee, I would make the last one half decaf. After a week or so of that, I had it full decaf (and two regular octane). Then I switched and substituted that last cup for an herbal or decaf tea. Then cup #2 became half decaf for a week or so, then full decaf, etc.

I never experienced those horrid headaches you get when you quit cold turkey.

Alas, I love coffee so! I have gone back to drinking the real deal because not enough people have decent decaf. I stop by noon and then switch to decaf or herbal tea.

I'm wishing you lots of luck with it, Carla! You live in Coffee Country!

Yes we do!!! In my little town of 5,000 people there are at least 5 coffee places that I can think of off the top of my head. If you go into Portland, there's a starbucks on every corner...sometime just across the street from each other....go figure.

I'm going to try to cut back and replace some with herbal tea. Still a little unsure about the decaf though.

Okay...I have the BEST suggestion....our own Blueeggbabe has a website www.farmatcoventry.com and sells a product called "faux joe". It is WONDERFUL!! It isn't instant. I drank postum and like that for years after giving up coffee and this is a zillion times better. I make mine in a french press, but you can use a tea strainer ball or like that too...it is most roasty yummy perfect coffee substitute. I LOVE it!!!!!!!
