We have been up to our necks in snow since the 23rd of December and now we have guests in our kitchen. In the 16 below zero winds they came Wednesday night without any notice or invitation. We had planned for them at Thanksgiving but never heard a word - how rude! They are demanding guests with requests to eat every two hours with a very limited diet. Who has time to cook? I do not wish to speak ill of others but their hygiene is still in the learning stages. If you wish to know more about our house or should I say kitchen guests just go to www.larkspurfunnyfarm.blogspot.com. I have even started a contest around these two, so the more the merrier. It is never dull around the Funny Farm even when we try.
Thanks for taking a peek.

We are Larkspur Colorado. That puts us between Castle Rock and Monument, if that is not too much information.
I am glad you took a look, don't forget to enter I really have run out of names. I refuse to call them Dave or Fred. Thanks

I love the names! I really do not mind the snow and even the cold - in fact - I have been thinking of moving to Alaska for the past three years. The one issue I have is that I can not get to my retail stores to add products when needed and my oldest son is not following the grocery list I give him. Since Christmas we have been snow shoeing out to the main road where our truck is parked but since the New Year I have been staying put and tending the farm. It is just since we do not do electric or gas clothes dryers and it has been soooo cold outside it will be tricky doing all the goat towels. Small problem - no worries I have five wooden drying racks so we will be just a little bit cluttered. Oh did I mention I started dyeing yarn before the little one's came so I also have around three skeins hanging all over the house trying to dry as well. Not complaining just venting. I have been watching "Northern Exposure" on DVD for the past week - feels like my life.
Stay warm!

Northern Exposure, what a crack up! There's this new show on "Men in Trees" or something like that..... they did winter solstice, they didn't have any snow!! and they definitely were not dressed for alaska, unless maybe it was near Ketchikan or something..... they don't have the light right on the show for this time of year. The light is so different here in the winter, it's hard to describe, but very soft, very peachey..... I can't wait to purchase some of your yarn Grace!!! jo

Wow, Grace, I visited your blog for the first time. Your new one. Great pictures and lovely sentiments. The babes are indeed 'precious' (but don't call me that anymore)and do need real names. MB

What a lovely way to end the evening...wrapped in a snuggly blankie and being rocked to sleep. Those little babies just melt my heart. I posted some name ideas and wish that I could bring them to my home!
I'm heading south for the winter. Some parts of my body already have a head start! |

Grace... I had trouble posting on your blog (more than likely just me), but these are the names I like:
How about Cecil for darker one? Just because I like it & it's fun to say. I have a friend Cecilia & I used to call her that.
For the other, how about Flurry? I like this one because he is white, they came during the snow, & caused a "flurry" of activity on their arrival.
They are so adorable! I would love them in my kitchen too!

Such cute boys! I showed my husband the photos and read him your blog -- he asked 'Where's the mom?' Did she make it through? |

The mom's are doing just fine but here is the rest of the story. We lost two sets of twins to our most experienced mom's around 4 to five days before these two came. With the goats having to be shut in the barns for more then a month and the bitter cold they where still born. In eleven years we have never had that happened. When my girls are coming close to delivering we do two hour watches but there was nothing to be done for those sweet babies. Most would not believe but animals do grieve their lost little ones and my oldest mom Ebony was having a real hard time. When these two came one was to a new mommy and the other to one of my older mom's. Well Ebony was trying to steal them and everyone was head butting and running around. The two real mom's where so confused that they where not having the kids and like I said it was horrible weather so my son decided not to wait for everyone to calm down and make new pens for them but rather to hurry them in and save them. If it wasn't for the death's of the others we might have given the mothers more time. Goat's are born with only about 2 hours of reserve before they have issues and that was not going to happen here. So one thing we do is take two towels out to the barn each morning and rub it all over the mother of each kid. Then we place them in their own plastic bag and when I feed them they are wrapped in that towel with their mother scent and sleep with that towel so they do not forget who is their mom. Also, when they are stronger and if the weather every get better, they will make visitations out to the barn to see their mom and the herd. It is amazing, their father "Thor" is the one who greives the most. When we removed the ones that passed away he blocked the door and demanded to lick them all and we sat with him and the babies for a couple of hours until he got up and went to the mom's who lost their babies and sat with them. He is my heart in the barn.
Thanks for all the names keep them coming - we are writing them all down with the author's information and on the 26th we will pick. Good luck and thanks for all your kind words.
IT'S SNOWING AGAIN!

Grace, I was also wondering about the moms of the babies, but now it's hard to type because I have tears in my eyes. Please give those moms and Thor a special scratch behind the ears, and tell them it's from Sandy in Missouri.

Grace, I read your reply out loud to my husband and had to stop because I got a catch in my throat. . . . so sad and sweet, Thor the Magnificent, mourning the lost kids. Both husband and I send warm wishes to all of you there at Larkspur farm. And please, pet all the four-legged ones for us, too. |

Thanks so much for the kind words. What is also wonderful about Thor is when the Mom's need to get away from the kids and just have some "ME" time Thor babysits. He lets them climb all over him, pull on his ears and tail, he plays tag and hide and seek with them thru the pasture and barns. When we got into goats everyone told me how mean and hurtfull billies are and NEVER have them around the expectant moms or their babies. He will hurt them and even kill them. Thor is a huge Cashmere with a five foot horn span but when you sit down on the ground he will come up, tilt his horns out of the way and give you licks on the neck and checks. It is his bloodlines that have made my goats so sweet and dear. Even though two of the babies that passed where not his own, he still licked them and sat with them. Whenever we have such a loss here we also remind ourselves of the joyous times and my guests in the kitchen are why we do this.
We will keep posting each day new pictures and information about the Kids and we still need names. If you also wish to enter more then once that's O.K. with us. No legal issues here.

It occured to me that I didn't say that I was associated with MJF when I left my names, Grace. When I signed up on the blog to leave my comment, I signed in as Kygurl. Similar to my id here.
I've been reading daily to see those babies. Showed my husband, my mom, anyone who will look. SO beautiful. The perfect winter gift. Jonni

Grace! What could be better! They are just AMAZING and so are you! I hope your family gets a break from this extreme weather soon. I started giggling because they remind me of Thing 1 and Thing2 from Dr. Seuss!! No telling what they will get into if they are in the house too much longer! I can never post on anyone's blog for some reason so here are my name offerings: Well, their Dad is Thor(God of Thunder) so why not Thunder and Lightening? Or possibly Blizzard for one of them? Ice and Snow? (I will now stop...but this could go on!) Good luck Grace, you and the boys stay safe in this weather and take care of those hairy chilluns!
with a happy heart |

What wonderful names are coming in and keep them coming! We have had another storm on Sunday with 10 inches and drifts of three feet. The kids are doing great but they are so excited to get a name soon. I really enjoyed reading the site that Bluewrenn sent - I remember the store of Thor but I had nothing in print. When we spent two weeks in Iceland for the sheep roundup there was alot of great history and great names but their language is so hard to pronounce. Thanks all and keep those names coming because we have more babies to come and if someone else gets one of your names I will send you a prize too!

Your babies are just too beautiful, Grace. And Papa Thor is amazing--I had no idea adult male goats were capable of that nurturing! You're such a good Mom! Ann
