I found this idea a long time ago in a book called Simple Abundance and thought it might be fun and make us more apt to do it. We can list here every day or so five things we are greatful for that happen in our daily lives. I for one, am guilty of not concentrating on the positive things in my life - perhaps this will help us all when times are both rough and smooth going.

What do you all think?

My mom loves that book!
I have implemented this with my son (and it's used with the 2 that came after him, too), who used to complain a lot and I noticed he was letting these small things totally ruin his day. Each night when we pray, he needs to finds at least 2 things to be thankful for.
He still complains, but not so much, and when he does I try to help him see the bigger picture.
Any way, I like this idea! I'm in.

I checked your blog, Cathy and found it very interesting or maybe it is you that is interesting. I said hello to Gloria and peeked at one of the minis. I have 2 minis also. Tuffy (Midnight Special Tuff e Nuff) and Bucky. My little guys.
Let gratitude be our attitude. Good news. I always try to have a positive attitude no matter what and have tried to ingrain that in my children. I am grateful for so many things and people in my life that I can grin at unpleasant things. MB

Developing an attitude of gratitude helps alot during rough times in life, I find. There have been nights that I have gone to sleep and thanked God for the pillow under my head. And now, many times I just sit and marvel at how good life is at this moment - and I don't want to waste these wonderful moments because thinking of something crummy ruins the good moments. I watched the movie "Oklahoma" and learned from the old woman, "you put the good things over here, and you put the bad things over there, and you say 'OK' to both." Wonderful things you are teaching your children, very good.

One thing that has helped my gratitude attitude is leaving a soul sucking job, so I am very grateful for a husband who is now supporting me, my mother, our children and our way of life. I am grateful for having my health. I am grateful for having a wonderful friend...EWG. I am grateful that I am finding a simpler way of life to strive for...simple abundance is becoming my way of life. And I am grateful really for every breath I take because we never how many beats our hearts have. There ya go, five for me. I have so much to be truly grateful for but shall save them and post with the next rounds.

Thank you Kathy for reminding me once again. And yes it is very, very easy to get stuck on the negative rather than focusing on the positive...you know the half empty vs. the half full syndrome. It can just be a matter of how we look at things. You know Kathy, we have both just come through some dark days and there really is light at the end of that tunnel. Thank you for going through that darkness with me my friend! You are TRUE BLUE!!

Kathy- I try to begin and end each day recounting the things I am grateful for. It isn't always a long list- sometimes it is just small, simple things that I recognized during the day. When you focus on the good things that you find, the negative things just slip away into nothingness. It holds true for any person or situation that may come along. So, here are my 5 for today- the cold air outside, my husband- who every morning (if I'm awake or not) gives me a kiss and tells me he loves me, my children's voices (or my hug from John) when they come home, freshly mopped floors and quiet time for pondering things. What a great thread!

Today I need to be thankful - I am thankful for the bright winter sunshine - for the amazing pansies that are still growing in my yard despite the freezing cold - the daffodils that decided to grow in with the bulbs just sitting around - the garlic that went unused but decided to grow anyways - what a pretty and unusual sight it is potted up!
I am grateful that the tiniest puppy (which I found out today has a slight cleft palate and could not get his tail docked) still has the strength to survive despite the obstacles in his path - and that he will have a forever home with me. I am grateful for my new cocker spaniel puppy, Charlee that kisses me whenever I need it - "buck uck, dog lips touched my lips!" (said of course by the famous Lucy in the Charlie Brown cartoons) but I could not image being kissed by a Prince and having it feel any more special!
The sun is shining on the wineberry canes outside my office window and it brings me the promise of a delicious harvest of berries next summer!
I am forever greatful for the women on this group who have oft times bared their souls and touched my heart with gladness!

Blessed Be!

A great thread, Kathy. I spent my time in the shower recounting so many things I'm grateful for. (somehow the shower is my best thinking place)

Susan - what is wrong that you are having trouble moving? I have fibro and I know some days are really bad - with the snow coming it get worse sometimes. But, I have a friend who says we should be thankful for each day we get up and our feet hit the floor - how true. I have perpetual tennis elbow and have not had surgery on it yet, I do the best I can.
S. Jersey - we had some snow today - a beautiful sight with the snow frosting the trees in the forest. I noticed how green my honeysuckle is on the garden fence and how the snow made the mounds of it almost look like sculptures. I always try to hold on to the beauty of the individual seasons - in case I was not able to see another winter, or spring - I would want to hold those memories dear to me in my heart.
Right now, I am thankful for the hot cup of spicy and exotic Gypsy Chai tea I am drinking and the few moments I have for quiet reflection.

kathy, how is your puppy? I hope he is doing well. I am so sorry that he is having such a rough time of it, but I know you are the best puppy mommy in the whole world.

You and your pupps are in my prayers and my thoughts. Let me know if there is anything I can do...you know I'll do it if I can.

Hugs,
G

There is so much to be grateful for! God is a good God! I have my health, a family who loves me, great friends, fun pets, a shelter that provides warmth and comfort. Sometimes I get wistful thinking about my "dream farm" but by the standards of most of the world, the life I am living is a dream. We are truly blessed in America and it is so good that threads like this remind us not to take it for granted. God bless each of you!

Today I am grateful for the warm sunshine that shines on my bed, the warm heat in my house (it is bitterly cold outside)my little puppy who is still alive and seems to be growing - the outside cats who find their way to the cat food and lovingly drink bowls of warm milk - the soothing sound of the wind through the trees - my cat Jodi who loves to lay on top of me and stretch out - so many many things to be thankful for - a good cozy mystery to cuddle up to "Louisa and the Crystal Gazer" - and a hideaway cabin on the hill that seems to be beckoning me to spend some time alone with my thoughts!
I am also grateful for all the prayers you gals are praying for my puppy - they are helping - don't stop!

I am grateful for the time I got to spend with my little puppy Petey before he passed through the veil to summerland, I am glad I got to show him love. Of course I am greatful for the surviving puppy who is soooo big she waddles like a seal hehehe
I am grateful that my poodle Holly Bush is home from the hospital and seems to be doing better.
I am greatful for the tree full of robins that were here for a few days picking all the berries off the ivy on the tree in the backyard. It gives me eternal hope in the coming spring.
