I am thinking about investing some money in paint supplies. I would love to begin painting. I would do watercolor, which is what i'm most experienced with, but I'm tempted to branch out to oils, which I have no experience with!

Just for fun, what would you gals do with $1000 if you just had it to play with?

I'd plan a garden...flowers, fruits and vegetables...I'd just go all out. I'm very drawn to raised garden beds so that'd be something I'd play with in my concept and I would try to use all herloom varities of fruits and veggies.

I would go to school. I have always wanted to go back and finish, but it has either not been the right time, we haven't had the money, kids, home repairs, etc. The list is endless. I don't want my life to fade away without accomplishing that. One of these days.......

Karin,

I've toyed with that idea too. What degree would you be getting? I never wanted to be anything besides a mom, so I never settled on a major. I went for three years and dropped out. I did lots of things, engineering, teaching, religion....

Now I don't have any idea what I would go back for. OR where? or how or when, but these days it's so easy to take online classes.

Rebecca and Karin - I am now finishing an undergraduate degree through an online program at Southeast Missouri State University - at age 50! And no, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up! The degree is in general studies, so I have had the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of course subjects. Many have been in psychology and what they call the interdisciplinary studies. My first goal was to pass College Algebra and get the Associate degree. I did pass with many, many tears shed, but am so glad that I took the challenge.

Whether or not you intend to use the degree to further a career, a general liberal arts foundation will take you in many directions. Even if you don't work outside the home, I find the discipline required to work online and the interaction with other people, many of them much younger with very different values and ideals, has kept my brain active and functioning.

I am taking two classes this semester, will take one during the summer and then I AM FINISHED!!
You will hear the loudest WOO HOO coming from Missouri on that last day!

I'd get a face lift - but then it wouldn't match my body!

I think I would go on a little trip with my big sis. It would be fun to just get away and have some girl time. We always have a good time together!

Much as I'd love to take a fun trip, I'd most likely use it to pay some bills. Thoug I might sneak some out to go book shopping...

Faith---LOL!! You and my dh have the book disease!! He would would have no problem buying books with extra cash! And the sneakier he can be about it, the more he enjoys it!

ponyexpress--WAY TO GO!

lilpunkin--my big sis is already on her trip, she didn't wait for me! but that is an idea--to go somewhere with just my sister, doing just girl stuff, yikes, I'm kind of freaked out about what that would entail! I think we would be quite dangerous! There is an architectural salvage about 1.5 hrs from me and I would LOVE to take the pick-up and go shopping there! Not a very far roadtrip, but we would be dangerous, just the same!

Jenny--embrace the orange shag! I'm thinking about having the house recarpeted in a red color to match Oklahoma's red dirt!!! : ) You should post a pic of your orange shag carpet!
Or you could do what one family at our church did, you could just strip the stairs bare and leave it for about 5 years like that or longer. They did that just because they couldn't make up their minds what to do with them. They did eventually have them redone. And they have a very nice home in a very nice part of town.

I would take a ballet class.
Years ago I used to dance a lot, but never ballet.
I think it would be lots of fun.

With the leftover, I'd buy lots of crafting supplies - fabric, floss, yarns, candle making and soap making supplies...

I would donate some to Habitat For Humanity, take a weekend vacation with my sister, and spend a little on just myself - probably something that sparkles! Oh Jenny, I got my carpet for my family room by bartering with our spare car with the carpet guy. The car looks really nice in the family room now that its carpet instead of as a car in the driveway!!

I'd want to do something frivilous...but I would more than likely pay bills. I'd sneak some out for books, though, definitely...and maybe some yarn!

$1000??? Hmmmm...

Probably use it to build a chicken coop, pens for the ducks and geese, and if there's anything left over, spend it on seeds for my garden.

Or use it to buy the animals I want to get! (Llama!)

I would put together some advertising for my Etsy shop and blog, purchase some craft supplies so I can keep my Etsy inventory going, and buy some gardening supplies to help get my market gardening venture going. I'm thrifty so I could make it stretch!

If it was truly my play money, I would take a class at the John C. Campbell Folkschool in Brasstown, NC. I had the good fortune to be able to take a couple of classes there about 5 years ago, and it was one of the best things I've ever done! They have classes in quite a few areas. I took a lace knitting class from a woman from Russia, a "learn to play the mountain dulcimer" class, and a blanket weaving class. Truly a wonderful vacation, but now, inflation has hit their rates, and it would end up costing about $1000 for a week. Check it out.... www.folkschool.com

OOOH Kathy, I saw a booth for that folk school at the Michigan Fiber festival (or was it the Handweaver's guild Convergence?) Anyway I want to go there too..... Just don't have enough vacation to do everything I want to do.

I would buy a treeless saddle for my little gelding. I am having an awful time finding a saddle to fit him. My friend brought a treeless one for me to try and it was awesome. He moved so much better and enjoyed working so much more. Usually I ride bareback but we are about to make a trip to do 4 days worth of trail riding where we will be up and down hills and through rivers etc. I can't do that bareback and I hate to use a saddle he is not comfortable in.
