Winnie,
For a minute there I had forgotten that I had sent you that postcard! Silly me! I thought that it looked familiar and was going to go look at the ones I have. Oh my! The other ones I have are in one of those photos. Postmarks one most of them are 1909
Fun!

katmom, it has been a few years since we painted those skates. I really don't remember if we used gesso first, we might have. If i was going to make some, i would use the gesso. I believe i used a spray sealer on the paint. Hoping that it would help keep the paint on if they got bumped around. I did the simple parts, but my mom, (a better painter) helped me with the flowers.
enjoying all the photos. thanks everyone for posting.

Thanks for clearing that up Michele. My skates have held up beautifully. They are hanging outside my front door. I can't put them on the door because the blades scrape the paint whenever we use the door. They are under a eave, so they are protected for the elements. They've hung outside for 4 winters now and still look like the day I got them.

I love seeing everyone's pictures, keep them coming please!

I think I might try your idea on a pair of old worn out cowgirl boots that have seen better days ... I want to paint either flamingos or lil vtg.trailers on the boots....

My front door is under the porch, so I am thinking of using my old skates without painting them, and maybe hanging them next to the door. My front door is glass, so I don't want them banging against the glass. This is such a great idea and a great way to recycle.

I have about three pair of old white ice skates that I usually decorate with, but they aren't out yet.

A few of my decorations. This is a tree my girls and I made out of a repurposed tomato cage several years back. It has all my Farmgirl Christmas Tags on it.

We have a small apartment with no room for a tree so we put a wreath and lights in the living room window.

Marie, I saw a really cute idea on 'pintrest'... it was a 'tree' cut out of about 1 1/2yd of green felt fabric,,, and the 'ornaments' were made from felt cut outs...remember elementary school and the flannel/felt boards... to the tree is adhered to the wall and you can decorate it w/felt cut outs...
This might be something kind of fun to do and takes up minimal wall space and can probably pack away in a sweater box....

More fun photos of Farmgirls decorating up their homes!! I love all of the creative and festive solutions.

Grace, one year , I did a big paper tree on a door made from newsprint for my little daughter to decorate. We made paper chains, ornaments and colored in decorations. It really turned out so cute and was a great solution for a small space. It was quite festive! I think your idea of a felt tree is even better because you could save it easier from year to year. Plus it would be a perfect background for rick rack, lace, buttons and a whole host of other sewing things.

Kelly, your repurposed tree with Farmgirl tags is darling! What a great idea.

I hope to get some pics posted later today. I decorate with lots of Christmas quilts. Both trees are up but the rooms are so cluttered that pictures wouldn't do the decorations justice. LOL!

Kelly - I absolutely love your tomato cage tree, the lit up sceneries next to it, and the gingerbread man!!!

Marie - I have made a felt tree similar to what Grace is talking about, that we use for our Jesse Tree ornaments... I sewed buttons on it to hand the ornaments. I'll see if I can find and post a picture.

Melody - I love the red and silver. Our tree is covered in ornaments that represent our kids' interests, as well as homemade... nothing nearly as elegant!

Here are some of my decorations. Many decorations are quilts or other decorations that I have made or found in antique/thrift shops.

This is the living room tree that has old-fashioned (but new) ornaments I won at an auction and farmgirl tags. Someone I knew made the tree skirt.

I made this wall hanging several years ago. It hangs over my antique Wilcox and Gibbs chain-stitch treadle machine.

Here is a close-up of the decorations below the wall hanging. I made the small Christmas Bow Tie quilt.

Tree in dining room with all handmade ornaments from swaps; it needs a tree skirt. LOL!

Decorations on my armoire in hallway.

Christmas Scrappy square quilt and Peppermint bed runner - I made both.

I have a few more decorations to put out - not putting all out this year. This year crept up on me - fast

Thanks, Shannon.

For the wall hanging you find a panel you like that could be a scene viewed "through a window". You cut the panel into even squares (in this case it was 15 - 3x5). Then you add your attic window sashing. Here is a You-tube video from Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company that shows you how. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-vzI0Jp3ak They are fun to do and look a lot harder than they are.
