We went to Kentucky for a church homecoming, and took some time to check out properties near Irvine that we saw on Zillow. Somehow our GPS got confused in the mountains, but we found the property I had my eye on purely by accident. It is everything that I want - a view, quiet, and a small house. The only problem is that we aren't ready to retire for anot her couple years, and can't afford two mortgages. I hope the LORD will keep it for us!

That property is really pretty! I hope it will still be around for you when the time comes. If not hopefully something just as beautiful will catch your eye!

Lovely property views. If this one doesn't work out, maybe there will be one in the same region that is just as nice. Keep us posted.

Vanessa, the place is beautiful and I agree with Winnie, if this doesn't work out it was meant to be something more fabulous for you. You have to hold onto your dreams and have faith that what is meant to be will present itself when the time is right. I am in the same boat with four years to go until retirement. My husband and I are holding out another two or three years before we purchase our dream retirement home and land in Washington. It will be a big move for us from Southern California and we are hoping that prices will hold out until we can make the investment. "All human beings are also dream beings. Dreaming ties all mankind together." Jack Kerouac

Great news! DH has decided to retire, and I'm leaving work too. Last weekend we flew up to KY to meet with realtor in 3 different regions, and we found the property of our dreams in Independence. We will close in September. The kitchen needs updating and I want fruit trees & lilacs in the yard.

Vanessa... congrats! And for sure... lots of lilac bushes... you will love cutting bunches to bring into the house.... I certainly do.

I read there is a new breed of lilacs that bloom multiple times as opposed to the spring blooms only.

Happy for you and your new adventure ...

Luckily we had a home inspection and we're disappointed that there were serious problems with the house, including the floor under the fireplace collapsing. We backed out of the sale and right now my DH is driving up north to look over 10 of the many properties our realtor sent us. Yes! I trust him that much! But he knows he should send videos too. The search continues......

This is the house that we have chosen. I am cautiously excited, although there are no repairs to be done we still want an inspection. It will be hard to wait!

Good luck Nes. I still think you should move to Minnesota to be closer to your big sister.

Vanessa, I know the feeling. My husband and I are going to finally buy a home in a few years as well when he retires. I look at houses everyday. Some that sold 5 yrs ago are for sale again. I'm hopeful that one of my favorites will be available when the time comes. I hope you get your dream home. I'm in the same exact boat. So exciting and scary at the same time! We are on the journey together :)

The wifi is hooked up and I've hung curtains. I need a comfy chair for the deer watching window. A strange lookung beetle hangs around a barrel we have by the front door and a cricket that looks like a leaf is on our porch.

Last week was warm, sunny and breezy, so I got to hang laundry out on the line. There is nothing like the feel and smell of line dried laundry! Most of this week is cloudy and rainy with morning fog.

It is nearly 2 months that we've been in Kentucky, and my DH has gotten a pellet stove on Black Friday. Hauling it in the basement was a tricky job and we needed more vent pipe.
