Confession.... I struggle to read/understand patterns. I do so much better when someone shows me or helps me when I'm stuck. I have been asked to make some crochet slippers out of flip flops for someone. I told them yes and now I am stuck with the pattern. As of the current moment I don't have anyone available to show me what to do and I'm going crazy staring at them!! Can anyone help. I really need the instructions dumbed down or a video or something!
I have completed up to row 8. Can you please clarify what to do with row 9? Am I suppose to single crochet all the way around? Or only part way? Also can you clarify how to do the rest of the steps as well?

The row 9 cont is setting is setting up the shape of the slipper at the arch portion. This section is no longer working in the round but straight between the two markers. The number of stitches will decrease as this shape is made. So follow the instructions starting at row 9 cont.
Row 9 cont - Continue in round and 2ingle stitch to one stitch before the next marker. Slip stitch in that last stitch. Turn the work.
Row 10 - You will no longer be crocheting in the round. This row will set up the stitches to crochet on. So, follow the instructions for this row and turn.
Row 11 - Still shaping this portion of the slipper, notice that there are fewer stitches to make. Follow these instructions and turn. The instruction "sk first st from previous round" is confusing since the piece is now being worked in rows. Try to replace it with "sk first st".
Row 12 - I believe you get the idea now. Follow the instructions for this row.
Row 13 - This row is somewhat like row because this is the finish for the upper. So, follow the instructions and do not turn where to row started. Instead keep going around the slipper. What this will do is smooth of the tapering stitches and even up the rise on the sides. Go around until the indicated end point and fasten off.
The rest of the instructions seem easy to follow. The slipper top rows are to finish off the upper portion of the slipper with a nice decorative touch.
I commend you for taking this kind of risk so early in your crochet career. Switching from crochet in the row to rows is common in projects which need to be shaped to the body. I believe that if you can see the process to the end result the project will be easier to complete. I know you can visualize the end result while you work. That is a good thing. Because the number of stitches depends on the size of the flip flop sole being used, there are no discrete numerical counts to guide the maker. These are really cute little slipper.

I struggled understanding the steps for the toe portion so I decided to make my own! What do you think? It still needs a bit of touch up and then I need to finish off. Also when I began working on the toe it was simply not working. I had to many stitches. So I had to undo my work a bit and do some decreases and it turned out so much better!

Also, the toe looks to me as if it is worked over only 11 stitches at the first row. I initially read that incorrectly myself. A better way to write the instruction could be "Find the midpoint of the front of the slipper. Place a marker 5 stitches either side of this point." I like how the toe looks in the pattern. The toe as you have done it is not incorrect however may pose some problems when slipping the slipper on. Try it again.

Thanks Marie! I don't but if you go to the link I posted in the first comment, the lady says if you subscribe to her page she will send free patterns to you for the men's and children's slippers. I was planning on doing it soon because I would like the children's pattern. Let me know if you get the pattern and if you make a pair!
