Hi! I'm new to the forums. Dh and I have a small "hobby" farm in Michigan. We actually split it between two properties. At our small one acre "farm" we have a large garden and chickens and in the spring, baby bottle-fed lambs and calves. At my IL's house, our "farm" has a small herd of Hereford cattle, sheep and the chickens summer there. We also plan on adding bees to our farm this next spring.
We have four children, who are active in 4H, dance and cross-country at school. They help us in our homesteading adventures!
I look forward to chatting with more farmgirls and sharing our farms together! |

Hi Jennifer, Welcome and glad to meet you. You will love all the friends you make and everything you will learn. Maybe you can teach us something also.

Hello Jennifer,
Welcome... My husband and I are hoping to celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary in October and are planing to tour the state of Michigan. We spent the first few days of our honeymoon in the Grand Hotel in Mackinac. (My husband loves the movie too.) We drove so fast to catch the ferry that we missed many city and things to see and do that we are going to see this time around. I also look forward to the beautiful fall tree and etc....

Hi Jennifer, I am also from Michigan. I am up higher than you. I live in Atlanta, Michigan which is still on the East side between Gaylord and alpena. What kind of lambs do you bottle feed. Do you ever sell any of them? I am looking for 2 ewes that do not get real big but their fur is good for spinning. Next spring I was going to start looking. I need to finish up getting their area ready. I have had goats and I did have a merino sheep but she was just so big!! and her fur you always had to add to other fur cause merino is such a thin yarn. anyways, Welcome to the group and have fun. it is a lot of fun here!!

Thanks for the welcome!
We have a couple of different sheep at the moment and are working on figuring it all out. Last year our kids did 4H for the first time and showed sheep. We had Katadin/Dorper crosses. They were a bit small, although they set up nice and were the sweetest lambs! Only one made market weight though. So we picked up two Suffolk ewes this fall and are breeding them with the Dorper ram. We'll have to see how they turn out! The Katadins are meat sheep and their hair isn't good for yarn. Not sure how the new ones will turn out!

Welcome Jennifer, I know you'll really enjoy it here. My kids all showed Dorset sheep in 4-H and had a great time showing at all the fairs. They've grown out of 4-H now, but I'm still a leader! It's a great organization.
