My daughter is home from work today and between the two of us we're making strawberry pie, peach pound cake, and maybe some bread. Anyone else firing up their oven?

I made Ho Ho Cake yesterday for a work function - but we are officially retiring the oven for the next few days. 91 today and that will only climb thru to Saturday!

One of the many reasons I look forward to Fall is the urge to BAKE!

I love to bake but it is so hot and humid here I try not to use the oven. My crockpots have been working overtime! LOL!

Natalie all of your baking sounds yummy. My oven has been shut down since June and it won't be back on until it cools down.

What's a Ho Ho cake?

It's so hot and humid here in TX. But tonight I'll use the oven and make a chocolate pound cake.

I am considering using the oven tonight to make some brownies! Brownies just sound so good right now!

It is a cake version of Ho Ho's or Swiss Cake Rolls - like the Little Debbie brand :) Just made in layers instead of rolled up.

It's a German Chocolate Cake mix made per package directions in a sheet cake pan. Takes 15 minutes to bake at 350.

Then you mix 1 stick softened butter, I think 3/4 cup sugar (I'd have to check), 5.75 evap milk (Carnation has a little can this size) and 2/3 cup Crisco - I know! I know! You cream it all together for 10-15 minutes - so I just let the stand mixer go at it.

You spread this on the cooled cake and then put it in the freezer for a 1/2 hour.

Then you microwave a can of chocolate frosting (or 2) and pour on top of the cake. Then it goes back in the fridge.

Completely unhealthy, I know! I rarely make it and then only for large gatherings. A tiny piece isn't so bad!

You could absolutely make your own cake from scratch, and your own frosting, but I can't really think of a way to get around the Crisco!

Thanks Jaime, it sounds yummy. Crisco reminds me of growing up when it went into everything. I have a southern cookbook from the 1970s that almost all the recipes call for Crisco by name.
