Hello to all. I presently am teaching a 4 year old kindergarden class and will be moving up to the 5 year old class next fall. This means I will have my students two years in a row so I need lots of ideas. Since I work in an area that has very little funding I need ideas that can recycle, can be made with everyday supplies, nature or cost very little to make. I have found that the children I work with have very few everday type skills and I want to change that. So if any of you Farmgirls have craft, links, or websites to share I would love it. Thanks to Rebekah and her daughter my students will be making snakes in a few weeks when we study the jungle.

check out www.enchantedlearning.com for unit ideas and printouts. I don't remember if there are specific craft ideas there, but there's lots to springboard you.

I have my 4 year old grandaughter with me each Wednesday, and we spend part of the day making crafts. I know this is not like teaching a whole class, but we have done some things that she has loved.

We gathered wrapping paper, glue, markers, stickers, ribbon, and we make treasure boxes. Some have been for X-mas, some for the pure fun of having a treasure box.

We have made pine cone and p-nut butter bird feeders on strings.

We have made our own magazines by using cut colored paper, pictures and paper from cards and other magazines and glue. We make up our own stories to go into them and come up with exctiting names for the magazines. They become gifts to parents.

She loves using scrap things we find all over the house. More than bought stuff.

Have fun - I am so happy there are teachers like you who care and work hard to instill creative juices in our young ones.

Hmmm....

Makingfriends.com has some great little craft ideas.

We did a lot of miniatures stuff using recycled materials - doll houses from big cardboard boxes, painted to look like a house. Furniture and furnishings from all kinds of recycled materials - if I remember correctly, a toothpaste box makes the base for a couch, with cardboard used to make the back, and wooden blocks for the feet. Oatmeal boxes were great for all kinds of things - making chairs, etc. I have a book here that takes those little plastic containers in jelly packets and creamer containers (individual sized) and turns them into all kinds of things, including toilets!
