Since this Winter is sadly sadly inept at being Winter, I am thinking of starting some lettuces in cold frames.....While we may get realy Winter eventually, it's worth the experiment huh?

Tasha, I've always, always, always wanted to do that. Do you already have the cold frames or are you constucting them? I'd love to hear how your project goes. We are so mild here, I am still harvesting greens and also turnips from the garden.

To me it's always worth the experiment, particularly if I get to play in the dirt! And really, what have you got to lose?? A dollar worth of seed and an enjoyable afternoon planting in mid winter? Any you maybe even get lucky and be able to harvest some fresh lettuces. Definitely worth it IMHO.

We have grown lettuce in containers all year round. It is a great thing to do and if your winters are mild, like here, usually, you don't really need a cold frame. (but it is a good idea) There's nothing like homegrown. MB

A cold frame in Minnesota in January, growing lettuces???

I'd say that's very optimistic, and will probably cause it to snow.
