Freida is coming along nicely and adjusting to her new 'digs.'
One disturbing incident occurred the other day....My husband washes all of his own work shirts and slacks and went to retrieve a bundle of clothes hangers as he was coming around the corner, Freida noticed what he had in his hand and became terrorized at the sight of the hangers. My only conclusion was there must have been an incident in her earlier life where someone might have used one on her as discipline or whatever. Made me sick to my stomach to see how she reacted. Right away my husband put the hangers down and went to her explaining that they were just hangers and she didn't have to worry about them.
God only knows what kind of life my Freida gal had before she came to us.
I abhor any kind of mistreatment or abuse of animals and cannot understand why this is so prevalent today. What makes a person cruel to animals? And, why don't we have stricter laws when it is discovered?

That is so sad...but your hubby handled it very well. I hope she will out grow some of those fears as you continue to love her and raise her in a safe environment. I'm with you...it is sickening how some people treat their animals...I'm sure they must treat their kids the same way. It's a sickness called cruelty.
I'm so happy Freida is in such a good and loving home now. Bless you!
Hugs, Peggy

I agree, Melody, it is unthinkable to me that people harm animals, or for that matter, each other. But as long as there are wonderful people like you and your hubby who share their love and compassion, the abused have a refuge. Bless your hearts, and please give sweet Frieda a big hug from me.

I am so happy to learn that Freida is improving and learning that her new home is about love and respect. She is lucky to have you and I am glad you had the heart to welcome her to your home despite what she had been through. Thank-you and a big Farmgirl Hug to you and Freida toady!

Melody, I'm sure that it's hard for her and for you! I've seen many dogs that were abused that are so frightened. But those same dogs with LOTS and LOTS of love and nurturing have or are becoming less fearful and more trusting. Hang in there with her! Sounds like you and your hubby are loving on her big time! CJ

There are some days where we seem to start all over again and then there are days when little successes occur. We have come to the conclusion that Freida is much older than what was stated on her adoption info sheet by quite a few years. Or could it be the trauma that has made her 'seem' so much older? She is possibly the sweetest creature I have ever encountered...which in itself astounds me. I doubt very much that I would be as sweet and gentle if I had been so blatantly abused and abandoned. I have learned so much in such a short period of time. I just want to protect her and make sure she feels secure and safe and loved. I try not to think about her 'former' life in Alabama. I talked to my vet about her and she said that it won't be a quick fix that it will take up to a year or so for her to trust again. I have plenty of time and plenty of patience. Slow and steady!

Melody! I am so HAPPY that you and your husband now have Freida. I so agree with you about there should be more laws on animal abuse. I've always said, I'd love to be the animal police. Hugs to Miss Freida! Thanks for sharing her beautiful picture with us. Marly

It makes me sick to hear about animal abuse. I truly wish there were more laws in regards to abuse towards any kind of animal. My dogs are a part of my family and will be treated that way. I am glad little miss Freida has you for her family. Hopefully her fears will fade as she learns you won’t harm her.
