Anyone have a good recipe for a chai tea latte? I have bought them before but would love to start making my own. One place in particular makes there's without coffee. I know that defeats the name but I would even love a recipe like that. I'm not the biggest fan of coffee but will drink it mixed if not to strong.

I was under the impression that a chai latte did not contain coffee? Around here our coffee places usually serve Oregon Chai (my favorite) with steamed milk. I've never even thought about making my own!

See it depends on where I go here whether or not it contains a bit of coffee. I prefer it not to anyway! I have had the Oregon Chai before and I agree it is pretty good. I still would like to make my own sometime and see how much better it is.

Krista,
Here is a recipe a friend shared with me years ago:
Indian Chai Tea
4-6 Black Tea Bags 1-Quart Water 2 cups Milk ½ cup Honey 6-10 Whole Cloves 6-10 Cardamom Seeds 1-2 Cinnamon Sticks
Place all ingredients in a pot on stove. On medium, bring almost to simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes. Strain to drink. Yield: 4 Servings
I have also made a Chai Tea concentrate from the Tasty Kitchen website that is really good. I would post a link but the site is down right now.

Sharon, I tried following the link and it says the website is offline. Is this a problem on my end?

Amazing Spiced Chai Concentrate
by thecatnipcat on September 20, 2010
Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 8
Description
All the flavor of a mix, with no funky additives or preservatives! The benefits to making your own mix are obvious: you can customize it all you want, you know exactly what’s in it, and if you buy them in bulk, the spices can be dirt cheap! Ingredients
4-½ cups Water 1 stick Cinnamon 1 piece Fresh Ginger Chopped 7 whole Cardamom Pods 2 whole Star Anise Pods 10 whole Cloves ¼ teaspoons Freshly Ground Black Pepper ½ teaspoons Freshly-ground Nutmeg 1 teaspoon Orange Zest 10 teaspoons Green Or Black Tea Or 10 Tea Bags #8532; cups Brown Sugar 1 Tablespoon Honey 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
Preparation Instructions
Bring the water to a boil. Add the spices and tea, remove from heat and let steep 15-20 minutes, depending on how strong you want it. Strain and add the brown sugar, honey, and vanilla. Stir to combine.
Mix 1 part concentrate with 1 part milk, heat and enjoy or pour over ice.
For a stronger flavor, mix 2 parts concentrate with 1 part milk or half-and-half (if you’re like me).
This concentrate will keep in the fridge for around 2 weeks. Freeze it in an icecube tray and add to smoothies!

I haven't either CJ. Maybe the word latte is creating confusion :)

It might be. I can swear on everything though that one place I have purchased a chai tea latte from had coffee in it. I never went back because of it. I may also be wrong.

I think that maybe the term "latte" is being loosely used to describe a drink with steamed milk. Definition for "latte" actually is Italian for a drink made of espresso cofffee and hot steamed milk, supposedly creamier than a cappuccino.
Perhaps it's being used with Chai Tea to indicate the "hot steamed milk" part. Anyway, I wouldn't want my Chai Tea to have coffee in it either. CJ

CJ- So I spoke with my mother to see if she recalls having coffee in a Chai tea latte once. She says that she remembers the lady telling her it did when she asked. So we came to the conclusion that the place was confused by the term and was actually really putting coffee on with their Chai tea lattes. Would make sense as to why I have been confused myself. Mistakes happen. That's why we are human!!

Krista,
Guess what? I was at the health food store and saw Chai Tea Latte with Coffee! It was bottled in the refrigerated section. I'm afraid that I can't remember the name though.

I love Tazo Chai Tea Concentrate. You mix 1/2 concentrate with 1/2 milk of your choice. If you're really into a treat add half and half. You can serve it hot or over ice (yum in the summer). I noticed they've added one with espresso to the line. I don't like coffee so it hasn't interested me enough to try it. I buy the organic when I can. Tazo Chai Tea Concentrate is the same brand they use at Starbucks if I recall right. Panera use to use Tazo also but then switched to another brand several years ago. Most stores carry it. I get mine at Walmarts here as it's the cheapest.

I have heard of the brand but never tried it. Thanks Tammy. I am going to give it a shot and see if I like it! An iced chai tea sounds delicious right about now!
