I have a few pieces of furniture to remove paint from and I would like to just finish them in a handwax but don't know the who's, what's and how's to do this. Any suggestions? I just want a simple finish. Someone told me to use bowling alley wax? Any input would be great. I don't like stains. I like natural wood but need to preserve. Thanks!!!
DH (while peering over my shoulder) says you want a clear oil finish and then an application of butchers wax rubbed and repeated until you get the desired effect. I usually do the paint stripping and I can tell you that wood prep before the finish is the entire key to a decent piece of furniture. Don't forget to sand lightly many times to achieve your smooth surface. I rub a clear coat of varathane into pieces I want a more natural look for and it seals the surface nicely. Eileen is right, BRIWAX is great stuff. I have 3 colors I use, clear, antique walnut, and I think the other is mahogany or something like that. Loaned a can of the clear to a gal I worked with, to touch up her wood floors, says it's great. Their are going to sand their floors and just use BRIWAX because it touches up so well. I used it on craft projects and a couple of furniture pieces. KarenP
