Has anyone discovered a good way to paint those "new" type plastic solid panel exterior shutters? We are painting the house a nice soft lemony yellow w/ white trim. Doors, window boxes, etc are going to be Nantucket blue( a greenish blue-think sea and sky combined). I would like the shutters to be also but am dubious about painting plastic. My preference would have been wood but these were a curb side find that fit the bill so...I am recycling yet again! My little cottage
is atempting to be a painted victorian lady ! Wish us luck! and HELP!

I have painted heavy grade plastic shutters. You will have to rough up the surface slightly with a sander so the paint will adhere. Then cover it with a white sealer before painting your color. You may get some peeling as the years go by, but I painted mine brown (they came black) in the early nineties and just removed them this past year. I decided to go with no shutters unless they were real ones that could function.

That is a pretty good life span for a paint job, wouldn't you say? Your color combinations sound very pretty! Have fun painting!

You may also want to look for paint specific to use on plastic products. Friends did the same thing Jeannie did and they worked out fine.

Actually there is a primer specially for plastics now. I used it to refresh my "new" patio chairs (those I got on a curb). Perfect. It has been 2 summers now, and they still look good.

To live without farm life is merely existing, to live with farm life is living life to it very last experience.
