I always yank my hoard of Christmas magazines and books out around Thanksgiving to jumpstart the spirit of making and giving, and to borrow good ideas. I have Susan Branch's Christmas books...she writes those 'heart of the home' combination cookbook and lifestyle books. Also have a Mary Engelbreit Christmas book, and a few hardback Country Living Christmas books, Tasha Tudor... Which ones are your favorites, Frannie? Nance

nance, i have several of susan branch's books .. they are so charming .. i often give them as gifts. i tend to drift more toward the more 'primitive' COUNTRY books though.

Frannie, I'm so delighted you asked. Fun thread. Each year I read A Foxfire Christmas. It is part of the Eliot Wigginton Foxfire series. This book is filled with holiday memories of the folks in the Appalachian mountains who had to "make do." Well, they had to "make do" all year round, but at Christmas...man, they really made the most out of what they had in order to make it special. It doesn't take money or stuff to have a meaningful holiday.

Rebekah, I never heard of A Foxfire Christmas. We got what we thought was the whole series back in the mid-seventies. Bet the Christmas book is wonderful! I will hunt around Amazon--that's a kiss, not lipstick....

I'm with Ann; I'll be looking, too! Whoever suggested the video "A Christmas Memory" should know I cried like a baby yesterday watching it. What a touching, poignant story.

NANCY JO....just strolled through your blog....really gotta get that book for myself, too! Thanks for sharing a peek at it. And since my favorite flower is the pansy, I nearly dropped my teeth seeing your panel lamp! What a cool museum you live in! Nance

Nance,
YEA, forgot you are the pansy girl, that lamp really was a good find, almost over looked it wraped up in newspaper and all.
Outside dirt is getting pretty hard now, so what have you been doing?

NANCY JO, well, our outside dirt is still workable here....not that I HAVE been working it. Close as I have come lately is flinging veggie shreds and coffee grinds out the back door for the compost pile, and deadheading pots of pansies. Have finished scarves for both sons, halleluyah, wrapped almost everything, got a haircut this morning, gonna make a cheesecake today or tomorrow....getting the house sparkling and presentable for my annual Christmas Eve dinner. Also have a last present to finish for both sons... scrapbooks with lots of memorabilia, their report cards, etc...but maybe I'll just check into the Clinic for the "Gee I still have time" Holiday Insane instead... Hope you're having fun, too! Nance
