I am so glad we are not the only "weird" ones. We do not own a tv either! It cracks me up when people call wanting to give us a better deal on our cable and I tell them we do not own a tv. They argue with me or are just plain astounded! Anyways, we will not be watching the SuperBowl, and honestly do not know who is even playing!

Erin - what is a roku???

Sooooo we are fighting the flu it looks like. It is kinda nice knowing what we are fighting, but golly gee it has been rough! We are just hoping Emi does not get it! I spent the weekend getting my kids' school ready and organized. I refigured out a schedule, which seems to be going better.

My back is about 85%. Sadly I feel like I haven't improved any. I have felt about the same since Saturday. And since I am feeling 85% better, I keep DOING things. Tomorrow I am going to try to lay around.

We have a TV, just not channels...lol!! Shannon, I thought we talked about this before. We stream Netflix, RightNow Media, and I signed up for the free trial of Pure Flix, but it gets "stuck" and I am having issues with it. I love the content, but I will likely cancel. Anyone have Feelin??

Shannon- That is so funny! If I got a call like that I probably wouldn’t be able to stop laughing. I’m sorry to hear that you are fighting the flu and I really hope your little one does not get it. Are things improving for you?

Alicia- I am glad that you are getting better. Take it easy tomorrow and see if you feel any better.

Alicia, I'll pray for your back to recover while you take it easy today, and also Shannon that you guys will recover and Emi doesn't get sick. The flu is the worst! I'm sorry you guys have to deal with that.

A roku is a little black box that hooks up to your tv and uses wifi to stream shows or movies. We have Netflix, Amazon prime video, and Hulu. We can use you tube, access PBS, and you can add different channels. A lot require a subscription, but some like PBS and Smithsonian are free. Either way it's a lot cheaper than paying for cable. So that's all we have though. We don't get any local tv or the "farmers five". So we can't watch things like the Thanksgiving day parade, sports events, oscars, etc.

I never thought about Smithsonian! Thanks Erin! We don't have anything like a Roku, we just plug the Mac into the TV.

So much for taking it easy...Matt texted me from work early this morning. He must have talked to his dad, b/c he wants to go work at the farm today! That means must have been good news. He hasn't wanted to go up there and get our hopes up, working for no reason. I will try to be easy! But I am so excited!

How is everyone doing? Anyone have some fun plans for the weekend?

As a side note, I received a phone call yesterday letting me know that one of my friends has passed away. The family hasn’t released any information as to what happened. I am completely shocked. She was way too young and it still does not feel real. I am hoping to hear more shortly. Life is way too short. Make sure to tell your family and friends how much you love them and share a hug. I am truly grateful for all you farmgirls and am giving you many virtual hugs.

Krista and Alicia I'm so sorry. You're right, it never is easy.

Alicia your weekend looks like it was full of outdoor fun! That's great that you got some taps out, and got to spend some time on the farm.

We had an epic winemaking night on Friday. Well, it was epic for us. We had a lot to do. Our friends are getting married in September, so we're making a Zinfandel-Shiraz blend and a Riesling for their wedding. We started a gallon batch of carrot wine, tweaked the grapefruit wine we having stabilizing right now, bottled another Riesling, and bottled cranberry apple cider. Saturday I cleaned up my craft room, which I desperately needed to do, and Jason painted our guest room. Yesterday we went to church, and had my dad over for an early Sunday dinner. He had to get back to watch the Super Bowl since, as previously discussed, we don't have tv! That was fine with me. I was tired and fell asleep for a "nap" at 7. Not the best nap time ever!

lol Erin! Sometimes I fall asleep early, too! ;) Carrot and grapefruit wine, huh? I love a good sweet wine, but not dry wines. I was born w/o a sense of smell, so flavors are harder to pick up for me.

Alicia, thank you for sharing your weekend. I really enjoyed reading about it. I am sorry to hear that your boy got hurt. How is he doing now? Your dog is adorable!

Erin it sounds like you had a pretty eventful weekend as well. Your carrot and grapefruit wine sounds interesting. It must taste good if you are making it.

My weekend was good. I went to a baby shower for my brother and his girlfriend, finished my first UFO, did some crocheting, and spent time with my family. I did find out they will be inducing my brothers girlfriend this Friday night. If she has the baby on Saturday then our boys will be 2 months and 5 days apart. Also that makes him born on February 13. So I did some research and found out that he will have his first Friday the 13 birthday on his 10th birthday, year 2026!

Honestly the carrot and grapefruit are both experiments so we'll see. Our friends did try some carrot wine at the store we get our supplies from and they really liked it, so that's why we're making it. It has orange lemon and ginger in it, so it isn't just straight carrot flavor. That would probably be gross.

That's great that your little guy will have a cousin so close in age. They'll enjoy that.

Y'all it took me like 5 minutes of sitting here to figure out if I am 35 or under.....and honestly it is still a bit fuzzy I *think* I turn 35 this year...I'm pretty sure....I'm going to blame lack of sleep on this!!

Alicia-girl, life has been crazy for you. I really hope you get some uneventful time soon!! And I pray everything works out with the farm!

Shannon-hope ya'll are getting better!

Thanks Sabrina. It has been an interesting few months!

Glad to have you join us Sabrina! You make me laugh. I tend to forget my age sometimes too. I like to think I am younger!

That is what I am hoping for, Alicia. All of my cousins are older and I am not that close with them. I am actually the same age as my second cousins. My parents had their children late and are both the youngest in their families. I am glad to hear Sawyer is doing better. Too bad we can’t bubble wrap the kids sometimes!

Oh I forgot to mention that my brother’s baby was born on Friday and I had the pleasure of being the labor and delivery photographer. It was an amazing experience. I was so excited for them and being able to share such a precious moment with them. Yesterday my little man was able to meet his cousin. I don’t think they had any idea of what was going on but it was fun!

Oh Krista how vey exciting!

It is a bit quitter today Sabrina, thank you. I think my emotions are totally off kilter, as little things seem to be driving me insane. I had an especially difficult day with my children on Saturday. I may go crazy if I can't get these boys out of my hair more!

In other news... well we just really don't have much of anything new on the farm. Though the POA is holding a meeting on Wed. Apparently there was an offer for one of the old rent houses at the farm (not a part of the section we are planning to buy) at 40% less than asking. Sounds like it is being entertained. We worry bout the new "neighbors" being the kind of people we would like next door. Matt's dad asked Matt today if he thought maybe at that price he should just plan to have it added to his chunk for us to live in while working on the cabin/ farm. The house is tiny and needs work, but older houses often do. It was Matt's great grandparent's house when they moved up there to help with the farm. I'll let you know when we learn more.

Meanwhile I posted on my blog https://derbauernhofsite.wordpress.com/2016/02/13/why-a-small-family-farm/
