This is one of my favorite places to sit. It's in front of the bay window in my kitchen. I have a comfy bench and a soothing fountain to listen to. The Shrimp Plant has thrived here. The hummingbirds, butterflies and bees feast on the blooms all day long.
Here's a close up of a honey bee, head deep, getting a snack. I hope it's one of the bees from my hive.

I don't know of another nickname for it.
I looked up it's natural habitat and it's "Justicia brandegeeana" from Mexico and Central America. It can grow in zones 8-11.
I started this 'bush' two years ago with one plant. It grows very quickly and can be invasive. But, heck, it's so beautiful let it be invasive! I also like that it's evergreen. So, after its done blooming and in our mild winters down here, it stays pretty.
