I have 5 bird feeders up in different areas I love watching the birds. My problem is a bunch of Blue Jay bullies that eat everything in sight and chase off the little birds. I am wondering if I could cage in a couple of the feeders so that the little birds could go thru the fence/cage but the blue jays couldn't get in. Anybody ever try anything like this?

My Mama did just that, she picked up old bird cages, scrubed them down, re-painted them if needed, hung the feeders inside, then hung them from the trees, just make sure the bars are wide enough apart for the smaller birds, you can bend them as needed

Sounds like a great idea. We have 8 feeders of different kinds out our bedroom window. We get a lot of variety of birds and some squirrels who are hysterical to watch. Great entertainment.

I read somewhere that you can also curb them by not putting their favorite seed in the feeders...

Hey Diana, your wire cage idea is perfect. I've used large holed chicken wire and also 2"x1" rabbit wire. Adding the wire around the bird feeders also keeps the pesky squirrels out.
Have fun!

I have one that only the little birds can feed from. It goes by the weight and when the larger birds come, we have trouble with blackbirds, when they land on the perch the weight of them shuts the openings with a little cover and they can't get the feed.
