Jill, that sounds like fun. Maybe you and your daughter can work together on one as well. I'm not sure which badge I will start will. I will see what the requirements are for macrame when the badge comes out. I may start with that one.

Thanks MaryJane and Cydnie, I downloaded the new merit badges. It was the first time I ever printed on both sides. It was cool to do something new. I'm interested in working on the Kitchen Renegade and Water Management badges.

I got a bunch of UFO's done for the UFO badge.

I probably shouldn't have submitted because those re-useable duster/swifters might have fit better for another badge!!

I've decided what I want to work on for the new Farm Kitchen badge. It will take a while to get things together because I want to create and make mixes; and use the herb & veg powders I make and the herbs I grow. After the mixes are made than I will have to use them in recipes.

That's a great idea Sara! I remember my mother had a book of recipes for mixes which she used quite a bit. Am I remembering correctly that you were working on a recipe book? If so, these would be a great addition.

Jill I toyed with the idea of doing a cookbook but to tell you the truth I don't like all the measuring you have to do to get it right. I'm more of a pinch of this and a splash of that kind of cook.

To do the mixes I will have to keep track of each measurement, but not looking forward to that part of it, so will have to tie on my FarmGirl apron and get it done.

Sara, that's rather how I cook too, unless I'm trying a new recipe. My youngest wants me to write down my "best" recipes for when he moves out, and figuring out measurements will be a challenge. I have yet to hear what my "best" recipes are. :) Looking forward to hearing about your mixes. I have many jars of things I have dried, but haven't used a fraction.

What are the recipes that always get asked for at family get togethers and what are your youngest's fabourites? That could be your starting point!

I am so terrified to break away from recipes and make things myself lol! There are only a couple of recipes where I have changed a spice or 2 but thats it. I definitely admire you ladies who do! I hope to cook like you one day!

Krista, I learned to add my touch to recipes because I often didn't have an ingredient or couldn't afford it. For the most part my changes are successful, but I have either had to eat my mistakes, or trash them. Mistakes are helpful because they taught me what not to do.

That is very true. I think I would need to start off familerizing myself with the different kinds of spices. I recently learned about lemon pepper and have found I really like it. Last night I cooked my asparagus with it and it was delicious! I'll have to keep experimenting.

Krista, lemon pepper is a good one to start experimenting. Before long you're be making your own lemon pepper.

I have decided on what mixes I will make for the Renegade Badge.

Trelingua Blend from MaryJane's "Idea Book - Cookbook - Life Book" - I've made it before and really like it. It's for venison but I use it on beef & bison.

Will work on exact measurements for the chili mix I made.

Recipes in "Spice Mix Recipe Book"
Taco Mix and Pizza Mix

Recipes in "More-Make-a-Mix-Cookbook"
Buttermilk & onion salad dressing mix.
Onion seasoning Mix - substitute for dry onion soup mix

This cookbook broaden my idea of what a mix is. Along with mixes for spice rack and pantry there are recipes for the freezer.

Ground beef mix - I already do this but never thought of it as a mix just a short cut. I've learned that mixes are shortcuts that help us in the kitchen.

White sauce butter ball - can't wait to make this one and have it in the freezer for all kinds of cream sauces, soups and gravy.

Yes, Krista. I made 3 mixes today. Will have to dry a little rosemary for another. That'll make four with four more to go. Have to order more butter for the "white sauce butter ball".

The hardest part for me is to remember to write down the changes I make to a recipe.
