I picked out a pretty doily that has tiny flowers, leaves, a big rose, and banners printed on it. That way I can practice many different shapes, stitches, directions, etc. and will be able to display it once I am done. I also picked different thread colors to add some extra excitement. Maybe that is something your daughter would be interested in.

I'll be working on my hand embroidery badge. I did a pattern from a designer that has a variety of stitched and turned it from a pillow to a wallhanging! I love to hand embroider. It's so meditative. Makes my brain believe that it is taking a break all the while I'm being productive! lol

Carole I'm so glad you posted about what you are working on. It reminded me to get back to working on the apple badges. It's so easy for me to let it fall by the way-side.

I agree Carole, it is so relaxing. I bet your wall-hanging looks beautiful. I can’t wait to see your finish product.
This is true Sara. It feels like this time of year we get so busy with other things we get a bit side tracked and forget to return to our merit badges. I hope you can find time to return to your apple badge.

I've had a hard time trying to decide where to start. But I'm going with:
Gaining Ground (Garden Gate) - I'm always working on my composting and learning more about worms I'm finding very interesting.
Know Your Food (Farm Kitchen)- I do track my food sporadically, so I think it will be good for me to have motivation to track it daily for a month.
Farmgirl Gratitude (Each Other) - I do use my gratitude journal and always appreciate that it gives me such a positive start to the day, but again I don't do it daily, so getting into a regular habit will be really good for me.
I have a question - Some of you have mentioned an apple badge, but I don't see it in the listing of badges. Where would I find the information. I just planted two little apple trees this year and want to add a couple more next spring.
Thanks, Jill

Jill, The apple badge isn't in the list yet, as it won't be "official" until January 2016. We did get a sneak peek at in the September "SISTER" Issue. So if you go to that email newsletter you'll find it discussed at the beginning of the newsletter. And, you can kinda be getting a head start on it. Hope that helps! CJ

Jill, Carole posted the apple badges requirements ~ click here and scroll down to see them http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=69835&whichpage=1
The apples are dried and one day this week I will use them in a bakeover. Little by little working on my apple badges again.

CeeJay, I remembered because I had printed it out and check it now and then to see what I need to work on. I'm all over the board on it. A little done on all 3 levels.

Awesome CJ! Not too much longer until you can apply! Congratulations on your intermediate quilling badge! I bet your quilling looks absolutely beautiful!
Jill, I had such a hard time deciding on which badges to start with too. Your choices sound like a great starting place. I hope you find enjoyment in getting started.
Sara, it looks like you will be applying for your apple badge in the New Year as well. Way to go!

Thanks, for the information about the apple badge. I seem to be on board for the expert level with my two little trees. Now to go backwards and learn all about them.

So far I have made 3 apple dishes for Apple Badge.
Granny Smith Apples sautéed with link sausage and sauerkraut. Turned out really good. One of my favorite ways to cook apples.
Granny Smith Apples sautéed with pork cutlets with fresh sage. Served it with asparagus. First time to cook pork cutlets. Will make it again.
Granny Smith apple bakeover. I used both fresh and dried apples. Ginger syrup for sweeter. Next time I make it I will half the Budget Mix because it was too thick for the size of iron skillet. Other than that it tuned out really good.
Guess you can tell Granny Smith is my favorite apple and the only kind I buy.
I need to make one more apple dish and work on other requirements.

I just submitted for my first badge - Beginner Bread-making. I'm not really sure how much description was expected, so hopefully I included enough. I made pumpkin loaf, a tomato-herb bread, and a beer bread. All new recipes. The pumpkin and tomato-herb turned out really well, the beer bread not so much, but I've made croutons out of it.

I just started learning some basic embroidery stitches this weekend. Now that the holidays are behind us I'm not making gifts for others, so I finally have time to get started on my first badge!

I haven't kept up with what everyone is doing and will try to do better in the coming New Year. Isn't that what new years are for ~ new beginnings and re-starts. Why wait for 2016?
CeeJay you rocked the quilling badge and now you are learning about candle making. Way to go!
Jill congratulations on submitting for your first badge - bread making.
Nicole, you're love embroidery. Have fun working on your first badge.

I'm almost finished the beginners Know Your Food badge. I really just need to write it up and submit it. This one has been really good for me, especially the tracking the food part. I've used an app on my phone and have managed to lose 7 lbs!!

CeeJay, I saw your quilling project over on MaryJane's blog this morning and it was beautiful!! The candle making badge sounds like fun and you will have to show us what you end up making.
One of my goals this first week of January is to review the badges and pick a few to work on in 2016. I will be submitting my Apple badge levels first since we should now be able to do so. I loved doing that one!!
