I am sorry I must back out of the book club. I do plan to read "The Mermaid's Sister". It sounds like a wonderful pick! However, family requires more of my attention for now.

I read The Mermaid's Sister, and enjoyed it. I think it was an interesting mix of being somewhat predictable and totally surprising and creative at the same time. It was very quick read. Has anyone else read it?

I have read it and I loved its charm and gentle magic. Osbert was described very well.

I know, you could really almost see Osbert, and he was so loveable!

The farmgirl who started this thread hasn't been around to run this. Go ahead and reorganize this one either here or on a new thread. I would like to see this started up again for the winter.

Hey farm girls! I am actually still around and would love to continue being in the book club if others are keen. The idea when I started the thread was that I could kick it off but then everyone who is participating takes it in turns to suggest a book and sort of guide discussion...I think we just ran out of steam. But if there is enough interest it could be revived for winter! :)

I'm interested! I enjoy historical fiction but I'm open to reading any genre. Maybe we should have people recommend books and then have a poll to choose which one to read?

Great suggestion, Kiersten! I will suggest A Christmas Homecoming by Anne Perry, which is a Victorian era mystery. Then once everyone makes a suggestion we could vote on the one everyone wants to read, if that is agreeable.

Another idea would to have a moderator pick a theme for each month's book club. For example, we can do holidays for December. Anything holiday or winter themed could be suggested. :)

I cannot think of a holiday book to recommend. I will put in my vote when the time comes.

It doesn't have to be a holiday book! That was just a suggestion. You can nominate any book you'd like. :)

Ok, lets vote on one of the books suggested as December is very near.
1. A Christmas Homecoming
2. The Christmas Basket
3. Just For Christmas

After reading the captions on all three I think I'll vote for Just For Christmas.
