Welcome to the MJF Knitters' Hot Socks Swap! This is a repeat version of a Swap-Bot Swap of the same name run by Laura over at Indie Knits (http://indieknits.typepad.com). So many Farmgirls have expressed interest in doing a sock yarn swap, so here we go!
Here's the deal: Send enough sock yarn for your pal to make a pair of socks, and their favorite hot drink (tea, coffee, hot chocolate).
Minimum requirements:
* Enough sock yarn to make a pair of adult sized socks * Some tea/coffee/hot chocolate (whatever your pal prefers) * At least one other little treat (for example a set of knitting needles, chocolate or body lotion)
HOW TO SIGN UP:
Send an email to me (sockswap AT yahoo DOT com) with the following information: * Your full name and MJF screen name * email address * mailing address * answers to the following questions: 1. What do you prefer - solid, variegated or self-striping? 2. Favorite colors? 3. Are you a beginner, intermediate or experienced sock knitter? 4. Tea, coffee, or hot chocolate - what's your favorite? If coffee, what do you use to make it and do you prefer whole bean or ground? 5. Do you have a fiber preference? (i.e. Are you a yarn snob like me?)
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST SIGN-UP BY EMAIL AND PROVIDE THE INFORMATION REQUESTED ABOVE. IF I DO NOT RECEIVE ALL OF THE INFORMATION, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.
Sign-up closes on December 31st, and packages should be mailed by January 15th.
FAQs:
Q: Who can join?
A: This is open to all MJF Farmgirls on this forum including our international girls.
Q: How much yarn should I send?
A: Please take the time to check the yardage and ensure it is enough to make an average sized adult pair of socks (around 400m/435 yards).
Q: How will I know who my pal is?
A: After sign-up closes, I will e-mail you with your partner's mailing information and yarn/hot drink preferences.
Q: What happens if I can't send my package by January 15th?
A: Please do not sign up unless you can commit to this deadline. That said, I will completely understand if life gets in the way and you need a bit of extra time. Just drop a line to your pal and to me as soon as possible!
Q: How much should I spend on my pal?
A: This is up to you. However, I would suggest a minimum spend of $30, NOT including postage.
If there are other questions, let me know here. Okay Knitters, here we go!

Hi Catherine, I'd love to join in, although we don't have anywhere near the variety of sock yarn you have over there!! There are a few lovely producers here, though. I'll send you an email now, Best wishes, Jayne |

Got your email Jamie, you're in! Any others? There are still a few weeks to join in the fun!
And to respond to another conversation going on about swaps on this forum, please note:
If you are not sure that you will be able to follow through with this swap, IT'S OKAY TO DROP OUT before the sign-up date of December 31. We'll all understand if you need to drop due to overcommiting (or whatever the reason!), but we may not be so understanding if someone's swap partner goes missing!
Thanks Knitters! Can't wait to swap!

Catherine:
Since I'm new to swapping, I don't want to assume anything--I know how that can end up hurting everybody! Basically, I want to be sure I understand what's expected of me (so I can deliver that and more... ;)
I presume the package we mail on 1/15 includes a yarn that matches what our partner would prefer (and enough of it to knit up a pair of adult socks), their favorite hot beverage, and something extra. Are we knitting our socks after 1/15 and then sending them back? Do we knit the socks before we send them on 1/15? Or do we just send the yarn, etc. and let our partner knit them up and keep them?
Sorry--as a newbie, I want to be sure I get this right so I don't disappoint anyone participating. =) (Aren't you sorry I asked?!)
Thanks! I'm so excited to be participating!
Kristina

No, I'm thrilled that you asked! Questions are great. Here are the answers:
Each swapper is to send a package filled with all of the goodies as listed in the first post based on their partner's preferences by January 15th. (Your partner and her preferences will be emailed to you on January 1.)
That's it. No other strings attached!
The knitting is left up to the recipient to do at their leisure and to keep for their very own (or to gift to someone of their choosing, always Knitter's Option!). One other small string for when packages start arriving is that it would be awesome to see photos of everyone's packages, but that's certainly not a requirement.
As to whether we'll be swapping with the same person or with different people, that depends on how many 'girls sign up. If we have an even number, we can swap in pairs (Farmgirl A gives to Farmgirl B - Farmgirl B gives to Farmgirl A). But if we have an odd number of 'girls, then we'll swap a bit more randomly (A gives to B, B gives to C, C gives to A kind of thing). Either way, I'm printing out all of your information and putting it in a hat for dear hubby to decide!
More questions? Keep 'em coming!
More swappers? Sign up today! You have 23 days left to join!
Catherine :)

One more thing in response to the topic of swaps and who can participate:
This swap is open to ALL MJF Farmgirls currently registered with the site. Newbies, Farmgirls at Heart, AND True Blues. International too.
We're trusting that everyone is as excited about sock knitting as the next swapper and won't let any Farmgirls down!
December 31 is the deadline for sign-ups/withdrawals.
So if you're thinking about signing up but were worried about whether or not you're too "fresh" on the forum, don't worry about it and just sign-up today. Welcome to the Hot Socks Swap!

Oh yeah!
Everyone: I'd like to introduce Knittymama! She is a Knitter and Swapper Extraordinaire and recently hostessed the Knitters' Coffee Swap that I've been raving about. She's also a charter member of the Urban Farmgirls Chapter of Minneapolis!
Welcome Knittymama! (Yes, of course...I *totally* knew that you'd come!)
Catherine :)
p.s. Head on over to the Welcome Wagon to properly introduce yourself there...the 'girls would love to meet you!

Welcome Rebecca! I loved your story about Little Man and the sweater! My little man is over two now and just starting to say ítchy!' when I put a handknit jumper on him. I feel like asking him, doesn't he understand the time, effort and LOVE that went into that garment! No, he just says itchy and tries to rip it off! Socks are OK with him though - don't know why they aren't itchy as well! Can't wait for the swap - I have some yarn being handpainted as we speak so I can try it out to see if it is good to send to someone. Best wishes and happy knitting, Jayne |
