Hi everyone! I'm Brooke, a 30 year old SAHM of two preschool girls in the Texas hill country. We live on a "commune" of sorts, 90 undivided acres shared between four homes (my parents, my sister, my own, and old family friends), 5 of which are "ours". We keep laying hens, raise meat chickens, have 10 head of cattle, a pony and a young nubian doeling that I hope to milk in the next year. My husband is an avid hunter, which means most of our meat comes from home. I'm still getting the hang of gardening, hoping to expand to produce 90% of all our food here at home. I have a dirt garden and an aquaponics greenhouse, which is thriving. We're also striving to be a zero waste family, and hopefully moving more off-grid as well. Our goal is to be self-sufficient within the next 10 years. I think this community will be a driving force to get us there!

Hi Brooke! Lovely to "meet" you! Your little homestead sounds like what we dream of! Do you can your produce? I'm trying to remember... do nubian goats give a lot of milk or sweeter milk? I know a friend of ours has goats that she mix breeds... nubian and another breed... because one is sweeter and the other is higher quantity. Anyways, our family hopes to become more self-sufficient in the near future, but we will see what the Lord has in store for us :) How old are your girls? Looking forward to getting to know you better here on the farm!

Welcome Brooke. San Marcus is a pretty little town. Tubed the San Marcus River once in my forties. I live in Paris, northeast TX, not far from the Red River.

Looking forward to hearing more of your little adventures in the Hill Country.

Glad you are here! That set up is really cool. I would love our land to be shared like this someday. It sounds like a great place for your kids to grow up.

Hi there!

You are from my old stompin' grounds! I was born in Texas and my daddy still has a ranch in the hill country near you. We used to love to visit San Marcos.

I look forward to seeing you here on the forum!

Nicole
