What good news! May the girls continue to grow strong....someone in heaven, in addition to God, must be watching over them. And all of you angels here on earth are wonderful.....
My little box went out a day or two ago. When I read of all the gifts and loving thoughts headed to the girls, it is so heartwarming.

Sorry if this seems intrusive but who will be taking over care of the girls? Does anyone know?

So glad to hear the good news about the girls. I mailed off the Kit books earlier this week and a package last week. I was also wondering who would ake care of the little girls.

You are so thoughtful to think of the girls' care! I'm not sure about the who's and what's, but I'll check with the gals at the Farm and get back to you.
Sometimes during the days I will just think of them and my heart breaks all over again. Losing your mother is a challenge at the best of times, and a true tragedy at the worst. I SO hope these sweet girls are able to call forth the strength and joyful determination that I believe has been a special gift of women for as long as time.

I've been in touch with the Farm, and Mahri’s father, who is Scottish (Stef traveled to Scotland when she was in the Navy), but lives in Seattle, is taking Mahri to live with him in Seattle. Any gifts that arrive after she is checked out of the hospital will be sent by the farm to them in Seattle.
Meadow is holding her own but will have many challenges ahead. Stef’s mother has legal custody of Meadow. Any gifts to Meadow will be given to Stef’s mother. No one knows when Meadow will be discharged or what kind of care she’ll need afterwards. Stef’s mother will have many challenges ahead in caring for Meadow. Her injuries mimic shaken-baby syndrome (head trauma).
Mahri is missing her mother terribly but her father has been by her side this entire time along with Dory’s daughter, Elizabeth, who is in Spokane studying to be an infant care nurse. Keep them in your prayers. The gifts and well wishes they’ve received from all of you have been just amazing. MaryJane said that every day UPS delivers more love.

Libbie, if you can, please keep us posted on the girls' progress. They are getting a lot of attention now, but it would also be nice (especially for Meadow's caretaker) to receive notes of encouragement and small tokens of love as the months unfold. Both girls have a long road to recovery....physical and emotional. We could send things to the farm to be forwarded or to the girls directly.

Oh, Sandy - that is such a good idea - it's true that the road ahead will be long, and I'm sure they will be able to use a pick-me-up now and then! I'll be sure to keep you all posted...

I've been offline for 2 weeks, and am just now seeing this post. I am so sad for the children and the friends and relatives of this beautiful young woman. I ordered a set of books for Mahri - "Spiderwick Chronicles"(I read that she likes Harry Potter, and this is similar, only with fairies instead of wizards, I think).

GREAT NEWS!!!
I'm so sorry to everyone that I have been super busy with studying for finals (which happen this week) and still visiting the hospital, I haven't had much of a chance to get on here and check the new posts.
Mahri is officially out of the hospital I just helped her and her dad pack everything up and get them into a taxi. Like they said before, she'll be living with her dad over in Seattle for a bit and will visit to Moscow frequently to see Stef's family and her baby sister. She has been doing great with the walker and does not need the wheelchair anymore, but was useful to rest her leg. She has her own little walker that she took home with her and with that she's able to do most things on her own except getting in and out of bed.
As for Meadow she is doing so amazingly well, they nurses and doctors were a little concerned about her swallowing ability and formula and such getting into her lungs, so she's still getting feed through the tube that goes through the nose down to her stomach. But she's made great progress in the fact that she can now suck on her binkie, she was quite confused and didn't know what to do with it for quite a while. So, she just keeps amazing us with how well she is doing and progressing, everytime the doctors say she may not be able to do something, she blows them off and proves them wrong.
"The M sisters" as Mahri calls them, are both very strong girls physically, mentally, and emotionally, they are doing so great!
I don't think I can thank all of you farmgirls for what you have and continue doing for these girls,
Elizabeth |

I lost my mother when I was a young girl, and reading of this tragedy just bowled me over. They will miss her so much as time goes by. I would like to contribute to a scholarship or college savings fund for the girls. Has anyone started one?

Awesome news about Mahri, and Meadow. If I can get through this post without crying ... nope.
Anyway, yes, let's keep these girls in our thoughts, prayers and well wishes. I am so very, very glad that Mahri has another parent who immediately stepped in - always good for every single child in this world to have "backup." (That reference comes from recently having watched a very light-hearted Hugh Grant movie called "About a Boy" where the only child of a single Mom targeted Hugh Grant's character as a possible Dad to supplement his mom who had severe mental issues.)
Same for Stef's mom, she will need much support helping Meadow to reach her best potential.
Please let us know how to continue forwarding mail to Mahri and to Meadow.

As I was looking through the Farm Kitchen magazine/cookbook this morning, getting the recipe for "Gussied-up pancakes," (which I'll post about in the "Kitchen" section - they were yummy!) I saw little Mahri's photo on page 20 and my heart started cracking open again... Sending love and snuggles to both of these sweeties!!!

Mailing:
If you have stuff just for Mahri you can mail it directly to her and her dad over in seattle area at: Mahri Crawford 216 s. 152nd St #82 Burien WA 98148
But if you have stuff to send to Meadow, I'd suggest just mailing it to the farm and they'll get it out to her. And if you have stuff for the both of them, I'd probably jsut mail it to the farm so you'll only have to mail one package instead of two.
Thank you everyone, Elizabeth |

So glad to hear the girls are doing so well. I am posting off a book to Mahri today - Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, about the gumnut babies. I loved this and my girls loved this - an Australian classic. Hope she likes it and the girls have the best Christmas possible. My best wishes to all, Jayne |

Hi farmgirls! Now that we have an address for Mahri (see Elizabeth's post, above), please feel free to write to her father, Graeme, directly about scholarship information...
You all are so wonderful. I really feel like these lovely girls have just gained a new "family" of hundreds of "aunties."

Libbie,
Do you know if there is a fund set up to help Meadow and her grandmother with the expenses associated with the physical therapy etc. that she is going to need? I would rather donate to something like that if I could.
Maybe there could be a special Maryjanes product in the next catalog where 10% after expenses goes into a special fund or a craft project someone donates to sell online or something. Just bouncing around ideas.
Thanks Julie |

Hi, all! MaryJane is going to check with a friend of Meadow's grandmother to see what we can do for Meadow and for her grandmama. You are ALL so thoughtful - it's amazing when I think of the good thoughts and wishes and deeds that you farmgirls so freely give...
